Trump says UN just a club for people to 'have a good time'

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. Days after the United Nations voted to condemn Israeli settlements in the West Bank and east Jerusalem, Donald Trump questioned its effectiveness Monday, saying it's just a club for people to "have a good time."
The president-elect wrote on Twitter that the U.N. has "such great potential," but it has become "just a club for people to get together, talk and have a good time. So sad!"
On Friday, Trump warned, "As to the U.N., things will be different after Jan. 20th," referring to the day he takes office.
The decision by the Obama administration to abstain from Friday's U.N. vote brushed aside Trump's demands that the U.S. exercise its veto and provided a climax to years of icy relations with Israel's leadership.

Trump tweeted later Monday, "The world was gloomy before I won there was no hope. Now the market is up nearly 10 percent and Christmas spending is over a trillion dollars!"

Well, if there is one thing that Trump knows about, its clubs where you can "have a good time."

(118,740 posts)organizing as people having a good time. Then they describe selfishness or sadism on their side as having a good time too. As if they equate. Which they do if you follow dataism. It states that emotions are just algorithms. They put no value on lives being made better. Chilling.

(14,449 posts)If trump stops the United States from funding the UN, it's pretty much dead as an organization because I don't think the other countries can afford to replace our funding.
Ugly times for the UN.

(2,037 posts)Thanks to our GOP congresscritters though, we currently owe over $1.3 billion in UN arrears - more than any other country (and to be fair, most UN members are behind at least a little on their dues). That's close to three months of core budget spending at the UN.
The habit, you might recall, started in the mid-90s with the godfather of neo-confederate politics, North Carolina Senator Jesse Helms. It was Helms, of course, who popularized the widely-held belief among the far right that the UN "iz aftuh our guns!"

(I had a bit of a math error on my first post - I had figured the Dow was up 5.5%, I transposed 2 digits)
As for the bond market, it has plunged since Nov 8.

What a loony man we have soon to arrive as President.
He's not even in office yet, and he's making it obvious that we're all fucked.

(34,582 posts)I was getting a cup of coffee in the break room and CNN was on (just got in, and hadn't had the chance to covertly change the channel to NASA), and the talking head was saying the UN was outdated and should be replaced with another organization- perhaps NATO. Yeah, surprise surprise.
