Wake County judge temporarily blocks law limiting governor, school board powers

Source: WTVD

RALEIGH, North Carolina (WTVD) --
A Wake County judge temporarily blocked on Thursday a new law passed by the Republican-led General Assembly that limits the power of incoming Gov. Roy Cooper and the North Carolina Board of Education.

The Board of Education sued the state over the constitutionality of the law, which transfers oversight responsibility from the board to the new, Republican superintendent.

On Thursday afternoon, a judge granted a temporary restraining order preventing the statute from going into effect.

The new law passed by the Republican-controlled General Assembly gives incoming Republican state schools Superintendent Mark Johnson more control over the state's education budget, oversight of charter schools and authority to hire senior-level aides.

My take on this...

This is only one part of the GOP's General Assembly Last minute power play. Stopping the rest is hopefully just a matter of time.

One thing is certain - Governor Cooper will be kicking out most of McCrory's cronies, and as our former Attorney General is very aware of how to legally challenge much of the illegal and unconstitutional shenanigans of these vile excuses for politicians...

McCrory and his ilk, while defending the so-called "bathroom bill", accused Cooper of not doing his job because he wouldn't defend it, and hired (pricey) outside counsel.

What often got shoved under the rug was that HB2 also restricted cities' ability to pass local minimum wage laws and restricted the ability for discrimination cases (of all kinds, not just LBGT) to be heard at the state level, forcing them into federal court, among other things. It wasn't all about bathrooms.

Much of the NC GOP crapola has been heavy-handed partisan bullshit later ruled unconstitutional by higher courts, such as the gerrymandering of districts and voter suppression efforts ruled blatantly racist.

Roy Cooper does have a hard row to hoe, considering the extent of Republican power bullied through in NC, but I certainly believe he's up to the task. I sure hope so!

Just hope the laws enable the courts to quash this putsch.

Whoever was involved in this power grab should pay a price.

The group that reneged on Coopers play to repeal HB2 after Charlotte repealed their law, should pay the price for not having morals and integrity to follow through with the agreement.

I for one am glad that companies, sports teams, NCAA have all backed out of events in NC for the crap the republicans are pulling their.

They moved to NC a year and a half ago, so I asked them whether the GOP's nasty power play was getting as much attention down there as it has been here.

He said it has received almost NO attention on the news.

Good way to keep the populace informed!
