Lessons of Holocaust being forgotten, says Prince Charles

Source: The Guardian

The Prince of Wales has said the lessons of the Holocaust are in danger of being forgotten, in remarks which have been linked by some to Donald Trump's ban on Syrian refugees entering the US.

The heir to the throne was speaking at the annual dinner of World Jewish Relief three days after Trump signed an executive order indefinitely banning Syrian refugees and suspending entry for people from seven Muslim countries.

The prince told the charity dinner: "In my own life, I have always tried to reach across the boundaries of faith and community; to extend a helping hand wherever one might be needed."

The charity's work was particularly needed "at a time when the horrific lessons of the last war seem to be in increasing danger of being forgotten", he added.

Not the first time Charles has said this, but maybe we won't have to wait till he's in the same room as Trump for the tangerine tyrant to "erupt".

Article includes some extremely commendable condemnation of the executive order from attendees, including the Commonwealth Chief Rabbi.

of Theresa May's cozying up to Trump. As 2 million have now signed that petition to bar Trump from speaking to a joint session of Parliament, it seems that the public is now turning their anger to the palace, hoping the Queen won't receive the Orange One. This puts Buckingham Palace in a real tricky position, but if these words from Charles are an indication, the reception won't be a warm one.

before a formal invitation is even made and warn that Trump may "erupt" if not treated with deference and avoidance of being triggered like the oafish snowflake he really is, it doesn't encourage anyone to roll out the welcome mat.

May went out on a limb by offering a state visit to butter Trump up (and try to get between Trump and Farage). Word is that it wasn't cleared with the Palace - which, if true, would be a serious breach of all sorts of protocol.

I say bring him on (but leave the Palace and Parliament out of it). I remember when Reagan visited way back - folks trying to throw themselves in front of his limo on London's streets etc. etc.

visit, so that the media could report on the difference in reception by the British people. I'm just guessing, but I can imagine Londoners pouring into the streets to greet Pres Obama (in a nice way). The contrast would absolutely send Trump into the arms of the guys in the white coats.

that I remember the run-up to Obama's visits to the Palace and Windsor Castle.

The deplorables of the day were full of rancid crap, like she wouldn't be at all happy having to meet, let alone having to touch, a black president and his first lady.

Aside from the sheer projection, it ignored the fact that the queen's been head of the Commonwealth all this time, so is not unaccustomed to serious dealings with non-caucasian leaders, and has never shown a hint of ill behaviour (loose-lipped Philip's a different matter at times, though he seemed charmed by the Obamas too ...).

I'm sure she was vastly more delighted with the Obama visits than she is at the horrible prospect of meeting the ill-mannered orange oaf and the ensuing awkwardness in the twilight of her years.

If he does end up getting a state visit, I hope she has pics like this displayed prominently as talking pieces.
