Senate votes to repeal transparency rule for oil companies
Source: The Hill
The Senate voted strictly along party lines Friday morning to repeal a regulation requiring disclosures for the payments that energy companies make to foreign governments.
The measure passed 52-47 in a pre-dawn vote.
The Securities and Exchange Commissions (SEC) foreign payments rule was mandated by a key provision of the 2010 Dodd-Frank financial reform bill and was meant to reduce corruption in resource-rich countries by detailing the royalties and other payments that oil, natural gas, coal and mineral companies make to governments.

The oil industry has made it a priority to lobby against the SEC rule. Exxon Mobil Corp., whose former CEO Rex Tillerson was confirmed this week to be secretary of State, was one of the most outspoken opponents, owing in part to its business operations in scores of countries around the world.

(883 posts)Shouldn't conservatives be for transparency? That way they can make sure that the "bad" countries will not be making money to funnel to the terrorists. That sanctions they put in place are being observed. Or is it they put on sanctions then secretly go around them and get the oil at a discount then say, oh it is hard to get oil because the sanctions or unrest and sell the oil at jacked up prices. Price on everything goes up but if the oil price drops none of the prices do.

(12 posts)50%+ of the population that watches Faux News and listens right wing hate radio even hear about this story or half the crap this administration is up to? Even if they mention it on those outlets it will be spun as removing burdensome regulation. Remember they all hated Hillary because of the perceived corruption in WDC.

Corrupt bribery BS like this is why we need Democrats like Feingold, McGinty, and Kander to have won their Senate elections. Stuff like this happens all the time and we need more Dems in congress. 2-3 votes can make a difference.
Even conservative Dem Joe Manchin voted with the Dems on this one.
It would be sweet to get DC statehood too. I voted for it.

No time for debate, no time for discussion or actually pieces of papers to study. Banana Repulicans.
