Trump vows to restore travel ban suspended by federal judge

Source: BBC

US President Donald Trump has vowed to overturn a legal ruling which suspended his ban on travellers from seven mainly Muslim states.

He described federal judge James Robart as a "so-called" justice whose "ridiculous" opinion "essentially takes law-enforcement away from" the US.

Judge Robart ruled that the prohibition was unconstitutional.

Several airlines have said they are allowing nationals targeted by the ban to board flights to America.

"The opinion of this so-called judge, which The US administration argues that his executive order last week, which caused confusion and anger, is designed to protect the US.

The ban's implementation was halted with immediate effect by Judge Robart's ruling in Seattle.

He's not threatening a constitutional showdown so far. Guess he thinks he'll be upheld by SCOTUS, but I since this doesn't involve big business rights, Kennedy could easily come down onthe correct side and keep the ban in place.

shit the executive branch is doing. He is disparaging the Judicial Branch. I really think he believes he has dictatorial power. He has no understanding of our government, or the separation of powers.

Nor is disparaging the executive.

It's not the branches of government that are at issue. It's the personalities. Which we have to recast as larger issues involving the branches, not the people, because otherwise it sounds truly petty.

The problem isn't the disparagement, but who's doing it. We have no trouble dissing whatever branch we don't like, and that's fine; but if others disparage the branch we do like, that's reprehensible and traitorous. It boils down to "me good, you bad; me smart, you stupid; me virtuous, you immoral; me patriotic, you traitor." In rather stark, absolutist terms that flip-flop issue by issue.

Obama says horrible things about the legislative, red meat for the believers. His administration talks about needing to redo SCOTUS (presumably, the entailment is, because it's currently wrong-headed) and we cheer--but notice, that's disparagement of the judicial branch. A SCOTUS member even suggests bad things about Obama, we're out for blood, but if one suggests bad things about Bush it's atrocious.

Give no respect, get no respect, get pissed off because you got no respect ... leading to giving abuse instead of respect, getting abuse, and getting even more pissed off. We're all playing at being the smallest men (or self-actualizing individual H. sapiens ) possible.

Our state is fighting bacK! Washington is first state to sue Trump over immigration order, and the federal judge who halted the Muslim ban is from Seattle and even a George Bush appointee.

“The Constitution prevailed today,” Washington Attorney General Bob Ferguson said in a statement after the ruling. “No one is above the law — not even the President.”
