Vice President Mike Pence responded today to Democrats who have already made it clear they’re going to put up a fight on the Supreme Court.

Pence addressed the Federalist Society in Philadelphia today and said that Neil Gorsuch is a worthy successor to Antonin Scalia.

He took note of Democratic opposition and said, “Several announced their opposition within minutes of his nomination, and now they’re even threatening to use the filibuster procedure in the Senate to stop him. Make no mistake about it, this is an unwise and an unprecedented act.”

The vice president said the White House will ensure an up-or-down vote because “this seat does not belong to any party or any ideology or any interest group, this seat on the Supreme Court belongs to the American people, and the American people deserve a vote on the floor of the United States Senate.”

Sixty votes (supposedly) ensures the nominee has broad support in the Senate.
