The one way a White House staffer can get President Donald Trump to do what they want is by telling him that President Barack Obama would never have done it, a new report reveals.
According to the Independent, an anonymous staffer leaked that the way military leaders were able to urge Trump to act on the failed Yemen raid was by telling him Obama didnt want to do it.
General James Mad Dog Mattis, and chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, General Joseph Dunford, were reportedly able to persuade Trump to move forward by claiming Obama would never have been so bold to actually go through with it.
The military action was in the works for months prior to Trump taking over but Obama advisors didnt want to do the raid until it was a moonless night.

Washington D.C. is swimming in experts about these kind of actions and it looks
like Trump got little input before giving the go ahead for the raid.

(18,124 posts)better Obama....that is all this raid amounted to. All these clowns did was kill one of our warriors, wound many more and took an innocent child's life, she shouldn't have been there but she was still innocent of the al-qaeda-evil and ours.........sad what we have calling themselves our 'leaders'...FUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And if what I heard on NPR is true we had a chance to abort the
mission because we had lost the element of surprise.
BTW the al Qaeda leader we were going after got away too.

No doubt if this raid had been a success we would never have heard the

(2,256 posts)Just being in an everyday combat unit in Iraq, we still used SINCGARS. military radio frequencies are constantly hopping from one frequency to the next. For every second that goes by, the radio changes frequency over one hundred times. Just to be able to have a conversation with your own people, all the radios are synced with a programming box that keeps them in time with each other. If any radio falls out of time by more than 3 seconds, it will no longer work. It would have to be reprogrammed again.
Being a special forces unit, I would imagine they would have even more advanced radio technology. If the enemy was listening, it wasn't an accident.

(70,504 posts)The one thing we can be sure of is that the al Qaeda was
on alert and ready for the raid. I have seen and/or heard that
we had lost the element of surprise in that raid and we had a
chance to abort the mission but went ahead anyway.

look @ the picture of the bin Laden raid .... the Air Force General (?) is helping to run the operation .....
Trump gave the order for the mission w/his daughter, son in law, Steve Bannon, and Gen Flynn (he
wanted the mission) there in the dinning room and then he went off to watch TV and to bed.

He just made Obama look smarter and him and Bannon and Mattis were shown to be trigger happy fools who don't bother to get sufficient intelligence before they comit American military to harmful sitatuions. They have shown total disrespect and huge lack of caring to our military men and women, throwing away an American life just to try and make themselves look manly. Wonder if they all have erectile issues, lol.

I would be more likely to believe that it was determined that this operation was just too risky so it was abandoned.

Weren't we sold a bill of goods that ol "Mad Dog" was actually one of the sane ones installed in tRump*'s Cabinet? Which is it: rational and sane, OR egging Cheetolini on to prove tRump's was bigger than Obama's?

"So just ask yourself: Do you really think Donald Trump have the temperament to be Commander-in-Chief?
Donald Trump can't even handle the rough-and-tumble of a presidential campaign.
He loses his cool at the slightest provocation. When he's gotten a tough question from a reporter. When he's challenged in a debate. When he sees a protestor at a rally.
Imagine, if you dare, imagine imagine him in the Oval Office facing a real crisis. A man you can bait with a tweet is not a man we can trust with nuclear weapons.
I can't put it any better than Jackie Kennedy did after the Cuban Missile Crisis. She said that what worried President Kennedy during that very dangerous time was that a war might be started not by big men with self-control and restraint, but by little men the ones moved by fear and pride."

Too many unknowns about this story to trust it.
I know I've fallen for some of the fake news being thrown
at liberals since the election.
I guess this could be one too.
Anyway, Trump is clearly arrogant and stupid enough to
do this on his own without being manipulated, but he is
also the kind of person who would fall for something like
that.
But that's how fake news works, isn't it? It's just plausible
enough ....
