Congressman To File Bill Requiring A Psychiatrist At The White House

Source: HuffPo

A Democratic congressman is introducing legislation as soon as next week that would require a psychiatrist at the White House, something he says is overdue but also urgent given his and other people’s concerns about President Donald Trump’s mental health.

Rep. Ted Lieu (D-Calif.) said Tuesday that the president, any president, should have access to a mental health professional given the pressures of the job. Congress passed a law in 1928 requiring a physician at the White House, but stopped short of requiring a psychiatrist because of the stigma associated with mental illness.

“It is not normal for the president of the United States, within 24 hours, to write about death and destruction and fake news and evil,” he said. “The most troubling aspect of this is it is very clear he has a disconnection from the truth. … The very first press conference he had in this administration, they could have talked about jobs or health care. They talked about crowd size. And then lied about it. It’s one of the most bizarre events I’ve witnessed in politics.”

“His disconnection from the truth is incredibly disturbing,” he said. “When you add on top of that his stifling of dissent, his attacks on the free press and his attacks on the legitimacy of judiciary, that then takes us down the road toward authoritarianism. That’s why I’ve concluded he is a danger to the republic.”

he can and should be throw out of office, to go spend more time with his family and get the treatment he so badly needs. This job is too much for him.

The guy is heading towards a complete breakdown very soon.

At the prayer breakfast, when folks are expected to take on a religious demeanor, he launches into a rant about Arnold S and the Apr entice show. His petty name calling, disrespecting the judges, talking about how smart he was in school, his constant lies, not being able to back down when he is in error. Folks, this is not normal behavior, He is in crazy town.

Murphy IS a practicing psychologist. Mental health legislation is his strong suit. Additionally, he's a USN Reserve officer (Cmdr/O-5) psychologist assigned to Walter Reed. It might be helpful to call his office and ask that he co-sponsor Lieu's bill.

I am no medical pro. but even I can see that all is not right with the orange shitgibbon. He is a loose cannon in the WH. The gop know it too, but want as many destructive policies as possible passed before he is outed. Perfect repub. president, dumb and easily manipulated. Does President Bannon report to Ryan and McConnell to get his orders?

I'm sorry, but it really is. For an acute issue, you have the physician. There are multiple psychologists (and I assume psychiatrists) with yankee white / code word clearance within 30 minutes of the white house. There is no emergency reason for needing a psychiatrist physically at the WH.

Keep in mind, unless Trump relinquishes the powers himself, only a majority of the cabinet can remove him from office (temporarily). Even if a psychiatrist found him incompetent, it would still take the cabinet to do anything about it.
