GOP senator: Physical border wall 'would rate very low' among Texans

Source: The Hill

BY NIKITA VLADIMIROV - 02/12/17 07:00 AM EST

Sen. John Cornyn (R-Texas), the No. 2 Republican in the Senate, believes that constructing a physical wall on the U.S.-Mexico border would not rate high among Texans.

"I think people would say, if you are talking about a physical wall, it would rate very low. Because I think most people in Texas understand that our 1,200-mile border is not ... the same at every point along the way," Cornyn, the Senate majority whip, said in an interview Sunday with John Catsimatidis on AM 970 in New York.

Cornyn said that he agreed with Secretary of Homeland Security John Kelly's view for a "layered approach" that would consist of "fencing, technology and boots on the ground."

The Texas lawmaker also said that President Trump should have a right to implement his executive order that suspends immigration from seven Muslim-majority countries, but noted that the measure was rushed by the White House. "Well, I think the executive order is clearly within the president's authority, although I think they got in a big hurry," he said.

Those East Germans had a wall to keep out all those tourists and sightseers who couldn't wait to visit their bleak city.

From Maverick county to Cameron county it is very blue. Also Presidio.

Kennedy and Kleburg counties blue also, although to a lesser degree.

Surprised me.

Texas exports more to Mexico than any other state by a huge margin. 42% of all exports to Mexico come from Texas. A trade war would impact more than 1 million jobs in Texas and destroy the state's economy.

Image a 30 foot high wall going down the Rio Grand river through Big Bend National Park. The only reason Cornyn gets elected is because he looks like Hollywood's idea of a Texas senator. Too bad his brain can't match his looks.

to keep cheap labor out of the market. Further, there are strong ties between Texas and Mexico that go back centuries, the folks along the border by and large do not want a wall, they want border patrols and safety. If you want to really have an impact on Mexico and illegal and dangerous border crossings, legalize drugs for recreational use and control and tax that shit. Our illegal drug consumption is driving much of the crime in northern Mexico being perpetrated by the cartels.
