House Intel Chair wont probe Trump Flynn Resignation, May Investigate Leaks to Press

Source: mediaite.com

The morning after National Security Adviser Michael Flynn resigned amid a firestorm of controversy over his dealings with Russia, the Chairman of the House Intelligence Committee stated that he wont be probing President Donald Trump over his discussions with Flynn. However, he is interested in looking at something else leaks to the press.

According to CNNs Manu Raju, Rep. Devin Nunes (R-CA) spoke to reporters this morning on Capitol Hill and cited executive privilege as covering Trump regarding his conversations with his NSA. At the same time, Nunes said that he is very concerned with the leaks surrounding Flynns calls with the Russian ambassador and that is something he wants to look into.

Nunes comments seem to reflect those made by the president this morning via Twitter.

I am keeping the faith (because - I simply must) that this is just the start and that the intel community is thirsty, and not a little furious, and more WILL be revealed -

Thanks for your brilliant description of what exactly happened to Moscow Mike!!

Just like Watergate, this will need to be investigated by the press or private citizens. Once there is so much info, the GOP will be forced to investigate. For now, they want their polices in place, once their objective is met, they will be done with Trump. The leaks are a result of a dysfunctional organization and whil the may be curbed, they won't stop.

There are likely some individuals who are functioning normally. The organization as a whole is not.

House Intelligence Committee Chairman Devin Nunes (R-Calif.) says he won’t open an investigation into President Trump’s former national security adviser Michael Flynn, citing executive privilege.

But the committee will investigate who leaked the story that led to Flynn’s resignation and why Trump's national security adviser was being recorded, CNN reported Tuesday.

...................................

Democrats are demanding an investigation into the matter, which ties into their suspicions about the Trump administration’s alleged close ties to Moscow.

But House Oversight chairman Jason Chaffetz (R-Utah) said his committee will not investigate Flynn, and Nunes, the Intelligence chairman, followed suit.

Nunes told the Washington Post he is more concerned “that you have an American citizen who had his phone calls recorded.” Nunes will investigate how the story was exposed, he told CNN on Tuesday. .
