Mass sexual assault in Frankfurt by refugees 'completely made up'

Source: Independent

One purported victim of 'sex rioting mob' was not in city at time of alleged attack

Prosecutors are investigating two people for allegedly fabricating an account of a mass sex attack by Arab migrants in Frankfurt.

Claims that a “sex rioting mob” of around 50 men assaulted a group of women over the new year were reported by German tabloid Bild earlier this month.

The report, which suggested the attackers lived at a refugee shelter in central Hasse, was widely re-circulated by right-wing news sites.

In an article since taken down from its website, Bild interviewed a chef who runs a restaurant in Fressgass, a busy shopping district, as well as a 27-year-old woman.

But when these reports support pre-existing bias, a bias that exists in both parties, they are repeated and shared until they become fact.

because the of the staggering number of sexual assaults the prior year it gave cause to believe the claims from this year. Simple math. I wonder if you feel any sympathy at all for the victims who were attacked in the 'circle of hell' style of gang assault/rape that transpired the year prior. If those horrible and vicious assaults had not happened it is safe to assume no accusations would have been leveled the following year. I am assuming that the cities in question had much better policing going on this time and that is why the horrific nightmare that those women who were victimized did not repeat.

The recent claims are false and are from the extreme RW to stir up hate. End of story!
Why do you still say the false claims might be true?

this is from the prior link I posted, it is what happened the year prior and it is why someone could make up claims and have them seen as valid. As to your sentence "why do you still say the false claims might be true", no one is saying that except you, curiously. The information about the horrific number of sexual assaults from the previous year gives the context in which these claims in Frankfurt were taken seriously. Why are you threatened by the truth?

"By 8 January, 170 women, including a police officer, had reported crimes to the police, including two rapes, with the events taking place in the main square between the station and Cologne Cathedral, and also within and outside the central railway station.[10][11][70][71][72] The number increased to 379 on the following day, and sexual offences were alleged in 40 percent of these cases. Most of the suspects were described as men of North African appearance. The increase in reported crimes was attributed to the fact that more officers have been assigned to the investigation, so complaints from more police stations are being evaluated. Many of the attacked women were non-residents, visitors, or other travellers in the main station.[73] By 11 January, the number of complaints was 553, with sexual offences comprising nearly half of the cases.[45]

The next day, it was reported that the number had risen to 653, but a correction made later on set the number at 561. According to the department of public prosecution, there has been a transmission error ("Übermittlungsfehler&quot .[74][75] By 14 January, the number rose again to 652,[76] by 15 January to 676 complaints, 347 of these including sexual offences.[16] On 19 January, the number of complaints was at 766,[18] rising to 821 on 21 January, including 359 sexual offences.[43] The number of victims is higher, as some complaints included more than one victim: 1,049 people were affected in total as of 21 January.[16][18][43] Three women were allegedly raped.[8][18][77] By 30 January, the number of complaints in Cologne was 1,016, 433 of which included sexual offences.[13] On 10 February, the number of complaints had risen again to 1,054. Alleged sexual offences were included in 454 cases, while the other cases consisted mostly of theft, robbery, and personal injuries.[14] The number of complaints rose again to 1,075 by February 15; 467 included sexual offences.[4] By 17 March, it had risen to more than 1,100.[5] As of 18 March, the Cologne Public Prosecutor reported 1,139 crime complaints filed during New Year's Eve, 485 of which were sexual offences.[6] By 6 April, the number of reported crimes in Cologne was 1,529. A total of 1,218 victims were involved, 529 of which were victims of sexual offences.[7] In July, it was estimated that more than 600 women had been assaulted in Cologne.[78]"

I've come across some who have gotten the Cologne and Frankfurt reports intertwined and mixed up. When talking to Americans who are generally pretty shit when it comes to foreign geography, it's not a bad reminder with two extremely similiar incidents have been reported.
