Eric Trumps Virginia winery is seeking permission for the second time in three months to hire foreign workers, BuzzFeed News reports. The petition for foreign labor comes despite President Donald Trumps campaign promise to put Americans back to work.
According to a petition to the Department of Labor that was posted online on Thursday, the Trump Winery seeks to hire 23 workers for the following positions: Farmworkers and Laborers, Crop, Nursery, and Greenhouse.
Trump Vineyard Estates, LLC is looking to hire the workers under the federal H-2 visa program at a rate of $11.27 per hour. The H-2 visa program provides temporary work visas, allowing US employers to hire foreign laborers. This most recent petition is the second petition filed by the Trump Winery since Dec. 2, 2016, which sought to hire six foreign workers.
According to the petition, the job description notes workers would have to work in weather with temperatures as low as 10 degrees while on their feet in bent positions for long periods of time.

If you enjoy wine, try Williamsburg Wineries' Governor's White sometime. Very nice indeed.

(269 posts)No need to hire foreign workers when the forthcoming concentration camps will have them laboring for free.
Ugh, I can't even deal with this anymore.

So it's just bullshit for Drump to say he can't find American workers. Don't have trained vineyard employees? Then start a training program!

(6,241 posts)It's not that Americans aren't willing to do the work. Just that we're not willing to do it for those low wages.

(50,557 posts)The wine director at a Michelin-starred Manhattan restaurant and a Brooklyn-based wine writer sampled four of Eric's wines.
Traditional Method Blanc de Blancs, $24: "pretty delicious," but doesn't know what it wants to be...it's made like a Champagne but it seems more like a Prosecco. (Later, the wine director calls this a "porch pounder" - something to sit out on the porch on a hot Virginia night and get sloshed on.)
Viogner, $24: "You know when you walk through the department store and theyre spraying perfume and you accidentally walk through it?" Their least favorite of the four.
Meritage, $20: "It tastes really cheap. It's also just really boring. Like, painfully boring."
New World Reserve, $30: "It tastes expensive but it has no soul."
This may be what happens when a man who doesn't drink alcohol tries to get into the business of making it. IIRC Trump Vodka wasn't that great either.
