"Not My Presidents Day: Thousands Plan Anti-Trump Rallies Across U.S.

Source: NBC News

Thousands of people nationwide have vowed to spend their Presidents Day Weekend protesting President Donald Trump and his policies at "Not My President's Day" rallies scheduled to take place in at least 25 cities across the country.

Six thousand people are expected to protest the Trump administration on Saturday in Dallas "to bring support and awareness to the immigrant and refugee communities," Eric Ramsey, the protest organizer, said. Ramsey said he hopes the rally's large showing will "let the establishment know that we do not agree with the hateful policies they are putting into place that further marginalize these communities."

He is planning a benefit concert and creating community service opportunities "to further bring the community together," following Saturday's event.

"Free the People Immigration March / Sanctuary for All," Los Angeles

The Los Angeles march is shaping up to be this weekend's largest demonstration, with 20,000 people responding "going" and 62,000 others as "interested" in attending on the Saturday rally's Facebook page. Some of the march's demands include "an immediate stop to the ICE raids and deportations," and for Los Angeles to be established as a sanctuary city, according to the event description.

It is amazing that there are so many almost spontaneous marches, which do not even include nationwide marches that are being planned in April and June:

Tax Day March on Washington - April 15, 2017. A protest is being planned to pressure Donald Trump to release his tax returns. While the President claims that no one cares, many who oppose his financial policies want to see the details of his tax returns. The Women’s March on Washington and its sister marches around the nation inspired and empowered millions of Americans. This event may be a next step in making demands on the new administration. Additional marches may be organized around the country.

March for Science - April 22, 2017. Washington DC. Scheduled intentionally on Earth Day, this event will focus on standing up for facts and science. As the Trump administration is slashing funding for science related organizations, these issues could have a great impact on the health of Americans, our environment and the world.

* * *

People's Climate March - April 29, 2017. Washington DC. In response to Trump's denial of the existence of climate change, this march is for jobs, justice and the climate. The People's Climate Movement is organizing a country-wide movement, culminating on April 29th in Washington DC in a powerful mobilization to unite all of the groups around the nation.

* * *

LGBTQ National Pride March - June 11, 2017. Washington DC. The event is being coordinated with the Capital Pride Alliance to incorporate the March into the annual celebration of Pride in the nation’s capital. Supporters, friends, and family will descend on Washington DC for the Capital Pride 2017 weekend (June 8-11th) to speak out against government policies that are prejudicial against the LGBTQ community.

Walking about downtown in our various T-shirts and spending our money was as good a way as any of emphasizing that we were local citizens. Additionally, we are a tourist destination.

YMMV

If sales aren't great, prices will come down even more after the Presidents' Day sales.

Also, I had an immigrant friend who said she is saving all there money now because she doesn't know when she is going to need it for the safety of her children or herself.

Really sad, scary times. My heart is aching for these people. And to put the burden of undocumented immigrants on the shoulders of Mexicans is even more outrageous. Asians and Europeans who have overstayed their Visas now outnumber Mexicans who are undocumented. Everyone crossing over into the US through the Mexican border are NOT Mexican.

I can't find out any info... 100? 1000? How many were paid to come?
Now THAT would be funny.. Troll a tRump rally and ask the other people there how much they got paid to come. But do it really sincere and tell them you got paid to come... That would drive them nuts.

The latter figure is most dubious.

In any case, tRump's team always oversells/overtickets campaign events (that's what this was).

"The rally coincides with thousands of scientists gathering in Boston for the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) annual meeting, one of the first major convenings of scientists since anti-science forces and climate deniers gained unprecedented power in government."

I questioned the effectiveness of protest with this admin but it seems clear that the muslim ban protests did in fact have the intended impact. I have come within a hair of getting banned from here today so this might be one of my last posts but I do feel energized again. I did not want anything to do with the women's march because of the affiliation with vocally pro-sharia law organizer Linda Sarsour...but coming out en masse does seem to be working in some ways.

13. How often do you think he will hold one of these events?

I'm betting at least once a month Trump will hold one of these rallies.

Now, the questions becomes -- we taxpayers foot the bill for this bullshit. When the President campaigns, his campaign is supposed to reimburse the federal government all the costs -- AF One, secret service, etc. Are we paying for his campaign rallies, or, is his campaign paying for it? You know goddam good and well WE are paying for it.

14. I think it's important that people march FOR American values.
Sat Feb 18, 2017, 09:29 PM
Feb 2017

Not against the buffoon (and thus those who voted for him), but FOR all the things that have made being born American such a blessing, that we were always proud of, and that we are in danger of losing. Most of those who voted for Trump really don't know. They're clueless.

I'm behind the curve on this one. I'll hopefully find a fairly close, small march to join. But I didn't carry a sign on one of the Women's Marches, so I have tomorrow to pick up some foam core board, etc., (thank goodness for Walmart??!!) and come up with a message about what I'm marching to protect. I'd like to do a good job since it's probably going to be used a number of times.

Hmmm...?
