New Wave Of Bomb Threats Hits Jewish Community Centers Across U.S.

Source: Talking Points Memo

By ESME CRIBB Published FEBRUARY 27, 2017, 12:48 PM EDT

Jewish community centers in at least 11 states received bomb threats on Monday, echoing similar waves of threats on Jan. 9 and Jan. 18.

The threats came after hundreds of headstones were overturned at a Jewish cemetery in Philadelphia over the weekend. According to a report by WPVI, more than 500 headstones were damaged in what police called an act of vandalism, though they did not attribute a specific cause.

The Jewish Federation of Southern New Jersey in Cherry Hill tweeted on Monday morning that it was "safely evacuated" and that police were at the scene.

Police also investigated a threat at the Katz Jewish Community Center in Cherry Hill, according to a report by local NBC station WCAU.

Scary stuff!

These people feel emboldened by Bannon and the message he's sending through Trump.

There is no reason for there to be a bomb threat against that amazing place. I just don't get these assholes that think that it is okay to make such threats. I really hope that they are found out, arrested and charged with the crimes they are committing !

This is such a sad time in America. When I was a teenager I thought we had almost driven away racism and it's ugly friends. It's so sad to see these things in 2017.

just under the surface.

I used to go to gun shows in Portland, OR back in the day (we're talking 20+ years ago) and there was all manner of batshit crazy to be found - all you had to do was look at some of the books, VHS tapes, etc., that were being sold alongside a wide assortment of firearms. Seriously crazy conspiracy theory stuff.

A good deal of it went underground after the OKC bombing, but it was still present. It was just more discreet.

I am a member of the Southern Poverty Law Center, so we get updates on hate groups and activities on a regular basis.

That sick hatred will never go away, here or anywhere else. The trouble is, it used to live under rocks. We could contain it. Trump and co. have overturned the rocks and all of that has come slithering out into the open, gaining strength and visibility.

If we see enough of the slimy things, we are supposed to consider them normal. Not in my lifetime. Let's stamp them out or put them back where they belong under the rocks.

When you target a group of people based on race or religion, it is not simply vandalism. It is a hate crime, and there is the intent to scare people, to cause them to feel threatened and in fear of their lives. The act becomes a warning. That, too, is a form of terror.

When you target with bomb threats, you're a terrorist.

Attempts to downplay the seriousness of these acts is being dismissive of the long, long history of violence against Jewish people.

To pretend Americans aren't capable of the same level of hate and violence that is part of that history is flat out denial.

Americans who hate Jewish people are no different from any other group who hated Jewish people and caused them harm.

Don't downplay these attacks. It's dangerous to think things will not escalate.

Don't downplay attacks against African-Americans and other POC. Don't downplay attacks against Muslims. Don't downplay attacks against women. Don't downplay attacks against the LGBT community.

Because to do so is to be complicit.

That is to say, Jewish house of worship and community centers in HALF of the states in the UNITED STATES of AMERICA have been targeted with bomb threats.

People are too fucking worried about which Jew said or didn't say what in regards to these events (evil Jews of the right are to blame, don'tcha know! ) or focusing on the wrong goddamn things (how did the "president" respond or does anti-Semitism really mean anti-Jewish), to notice anti-Semitism is coming fast and furious. This is just the shit YOU ALL are hearing about. This is happening all over the country, and most of the stories aren't popping up in major news sources, therefore they must be "fake news".

ANTI-SEMITISM is FUCKING REAL!
