House Intelligence Chair Says He Will Investigate Eavesdropping Claims

Source: Talking Points Memo

By ESME CRIBB Published MARCH 5, 2017, 12:26 PM EDT

House Intelligence Committee chair Rep. Devin Nunes (R-CA) said on Sunday that his committee will "make inquiries" into whether President Barack Obama's administration eavesdropped on campaign officials before the 2016 election, as President Donald Trump has baselessly claimed it did.

"One of the focus points of the House Intelligence Committee's investigation is the U.S. government's response to actions taken by Russian intelligence agents during the presidential campaign," Nunes said in a statement. "As such, the Committee will make inquiries into whether the government was conducting surveillance activities on any political party’s campaign officials or surrogates, and we will continue to investigate this issue if the evidence warrants it."

In a series of tweets posted early Saturday, Trump baselessly claimed that Obama was “wire tapping” his phones at Trump Tower before the 2016 election. He offered no evidence to support his allegations.

A spokesperson for Obama rejected Trump's claims later the same day, saying in a statement that "neither President Obama nor any White House official ever ordered surveillance on any U.S. citizen."

Funny how they are so eager to investigate something a Democrat is claimed to have done but don't want to investigate whether Trump's campaign colluded with a hostile foreign government to win the election.

He has been unrelenting in pressuring military to move a planned security installation from Britain to Azores even though Nato want it in Britain for access.

The Azores location would probably make monitoring Russia more difficult.

While Nunes probably wants the Azores because it is his ancestral home and he is popular there, his pressure for that location seems over the top-he's like an attack dog on the issue and has insisted he is going to win.

Troubling lack of concern for our national interest in favor of his own personal aggrandizement.

I would think that Trump will reward him with what he wants.

.... something that really did happen which was Trump's campaign and the GOP working
with elements of Putin's government and spy network in order to rig the elections.

* Now Trump and company might have been wiretapped after a FISA warrant was issued
to the NSA or the DoJ by a judge after he/she found probable cause and the Obama administration
might very well have helped to safe guard what the wire taps found
out but the idea that Obama ordered any such tap on his own is laughable.
