Storm to hit Northeast; blizzard watch for NYC, Boston
Source: ABC News
Sunny days and T-shirt-wearing temperatures made it appear winter had made an early exit. But it's not finished with us yet at least in the Northeast where a powerful storm with high winds and up to a foot of snow is expected.
Forecasters at the National Weather Service said Saturday there's a blizzard watch for coastal regions including New York City and Boston for Monday night into Tuesday. There also is a winter storm watch for a larger area that includes much of New Jersey, Pennsylvania, upstate New York and New England.
The severe weather comes just a week after the region saw temperatures climb into the 60s in what looked like a sign of balmy spring. The chilly weather and snow some areas got on Friday was just a teaser.
"It's a noticeable difference. It's going to be a cold week," said Brian Hurley, a meteorologist at the weather service's Weather Prediction Center in College Park, Maryland.

(68,576 posts)My sis lived in New Hampshire...at the time we were living in Georgia...I remember a beautiful spring day...when sis called and said she was getting 6-8 inches...I said rain??? There will be floods...she said...no, it is going to snow. Thus, I looked it up...although Boston is often mentioned with big storms...Maine, Vermont and New Hampshire and of course my former state Connecticut also get wiped out with snow...

We're just recovering, and some are still without power from a massive wind storm last week.
Cleanup efforts will certainly be hindered as a result of this forecasted storm.
Hopefully the weakened trees and infrastructure are not too heavily damaged by a heavy snowfall.
Grocery stores should be entertaining today!
Good luck, everyone!

They say one disadvantage of the lack of cold, snowy winter is a potential boom in the deer tick population.

(32,639 posts)We're in the southwest corner of Pennsylvania, closer to Ohio than the East Coast.
The storms usually come up the coastline and meet up with the cold front coming east from the Great Lakes.
We'll get an inch or two of snow, rarely more than that. Harrisburg and further east, they get wiped out.
Don't forget that Punxsutawney Phil did say we're getting 6 more weeks of winter!
It'll all be over in a few days.

(22,651 posts)change, love extreme weather as long as it's not to "extreme", floods, blizzards, sub-zero unsafe temps. I've lived in places the weather will kill you, it's not fun.
