Trump May Throw Goodies Into O'Care Repeal Bill To Appease Conservatives

Source: Talking Points Memo

By CAITLIN MACNEAL Published MARCH 14, 2017, 10:27 AM EDT

President Donald Trump is considering accommodating changes to the House leadership bill to repeal and replace Obamacare that are favored by its conservative opponents, Politico reported Monday night, citing two unnamed administration officials.

"I think the changes that the conservatives want are more and more likely,” one administration official told Politico.

The changes could include moving up the date to roll back Medicaid from 2020 to 2018 or moving up other changes to the insurance marketplace from 2020 to 2018, according to the report. Whatever tweaks are decided on would be offered as an amendment to the legislation in the House Rules Committee.

Many conservatives have come out against the bill that House Republican leadership unveiled last week, expressing concern about the delay in rolling back Medicaid expansion and about tax credits offered through the plan. Any amendment under consideration by Trump could bring those conservatives on board, but then may prevent moderate Republicans in the Senate from voting for the legislation.

1. If they stop the Medicaid expansion in 2018, 26 million would have lost their insurance.;

Surely the R';s can't win the midterms in that scenario? OTOH, many people will be hurt by losing their coverage 2 years early, so can't wish for that either.

would join in murder health care ...it still won't get through the Senate. And if we can get enough seats in Congress we can impeach you in 18.

may voice their support of Congressional investigations into Trumpy's criminality. Being over-the-top "Republican" about health care leaves millions of citizens without insurance, but Trumpy is more concerned about his own skin than those of his voters. So he mollifies the most vocal of GOPers and throws his voting supporters under the bus.

I'm SURE that's gonna help the GOP out a bunch when it comes to re-election.

That original plan to delay the changes was calculated to protect the GOP in these upcoming elections. They were hoping maybe voters would forget how bad they got screwed. Pretty sure the voters are not gonna forgive and forget this no matter when they do it, but I'm certain that in two years they ARE still gonna be pissed off and ready to boot incumbents that go along with this. (There are Republicans worrying about it now, in fact.)

They are gonna f**k us all anyway. I figure they may as well do it sooner rather than later. At least this way Dems might have some hope of getting control of at least the Senate and maybe even pick up a few House seats too. That's about as much as I realistically think we can expect right now.
