Huck: Trump Should Ignore Travel Ban Ruling, Like Jackson With Trail Of Tears

Source: Talking Points Memo

By ALLEGRA KIRKLAND Published MARCH 16, 2017, 10:37 AM EDT

President Donald Trump may want to avoid taking legal advice from former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee.

After a federal judge on Wednesday ordered a hold on Trump’s revised travel ban, Huckabee urged the President to ignore the ruling, citing Andrew Jackson’s refusal to enforce an 1832 Supreme Court decision affirming the sovereignty of the Cherokee Nation. Jackson rejected the decision in Worcester v. Georgia, leading to the forcible expulsion of some 15,000 Cherokee from Georgia along the Trail of Tears. Some 4,000 died on that journey.

According to Huckabee, this is a solid historical precedent.

That is a misquotation of a remark, believed to be apocryphal, that Jackson made about Supreme Court Chief Justice John Marshall’s ruling in Worcester v. Georgia: "John Marshall has made his decision; now let him enforce it."

Yeah, fat Mike, let's jut provoke war within the country by having different military forces fighting each other over this. So, the state calls in the National Guard to oust the ICE idiots and then what happens? Drumpf would sic the military on them post haste, what would they do? Does fat mike think for one second before prescribing treachery for Drumpf? Thinking minds guess - no way.

up a point I read a couple months back about dictators destroying the courts..."they can make all the 'decisions' they want to - but they can't ENFORCE them".

Oh crap, I thought, what a naive American I am. Free press and courts destroyed: game over...and this is how courts are made irrelevant..."ignore them and they'll go away"

Well anyway, fuck you huckster and shame shame shame on you

when Mike Huckabee was better at pretending to be an actual reasonable human being. But that was when he was trying to promote a diet book.

Now his desperate attempts for right-wing relevance man he's good from being a man of God to being a man of God-dammit-look-at-me. He's become a Cracker Ann Coulter.

and some airports/areas don't want to comply with Trump's order, what can trump do? Fire the CBP agents that refuse to against a federal court ruling?
This really does tie trumps hands.

Though I would kind of like to see Federal Marshals enforce the ruling against trump.

that they would get some of the stolen Indian land.

The right's emotional investment in this travel ban is somewhere between watching professional wrestling and watching a lynching.

If it gets too complicated, they'll lose interest.

I've found this true when talking to righties about illegal immigration and affirmative action. If you get much deeper than the knee jerk reaction, their eyes glass over.

Trump's travel ban is so dumb. It doesn't include Pakistan and Saudi Arabia! WTF!
This proves Trump is just another phony politician. He, like Bush, isn't really doing anything--maybe he's even harming us.
So much for the so-called businessman.
