Harry Reid International Airport?
Source: The Nevada Independent
Several Democratic lawmakers want to change the name of McCarran International Airport to honor recently retired Nevada Sen. Harry Reid.
Democratic Sen. Tick Segerblom is the primary sponsor of SB174, which as originally drafted would require the states largest airport to shed its former name honoring former Nevada Sen. Pat McCarran, whose record of anti-semitism and prejudice have led some to question how the state honors his legacy. A proposed amendment to the bill removes the mandate and instead urges the Clark County to change the airports name as long as private money covers the cost of changing the name and no federal rules or regulations are broken via the name change.
U.S. Sen. Catherine Cortez Masto, who replaced Reid in the Senate, said in a statement that she strongly supported the proposal.
Nevada would not be what it is today without Senator Reids decades-long work on behalf of all Nevadans, she said in a statement. I look forward to the day when I come home to Las Vegas and land at the airport named after the greatest fighter Nevada has ever seen.

I think naming an airport after someone who actually has DONE something with his political career is a worthwhile action.

(7,809 posts)I still insist on saying "Washington National Airport." I seethe every time I have to see the new name it was given so anyone who doesn't like the sound of "Reid International Airport" (and you wouldn't believe how many there are) can just suck it.

(5 posts)I have a lot of issues with Harry Reid, but he HAS done a great deal for his state.
I lived in Reno for a long time and there is McCarran-everything everywhere.
I'm perfectly ok with one less McCarran airport.
I lost my old account when the site was hacked. The email account it was linked to is gone, and Meh, might as well start a new.
I've been lurking since before the election. Things got too toxic here.
