Rex Tillerson On Being Secretary Of State: 'I Didn't Want This Job'

Source: Talking Points Memo

By MATT SHUHAM Published MARCH 22, 2017, 10:01 AM EDT

Secretary of State Rex Tillerson “didn’t want” the job, and took it at his wife’s urging.

Tillerson, who recently returned from a diplomatic trip to Asia accompanied by a press corps of one – the Independent Journal Review’s Erin McPike – told the publication in an interview published Tuesday that he was “stunned” to be offered the job.

“I didn’t want this job. I didn’t seek this job,” he said. “My wife told me I’m supposed to do this.”

After a conversation with President Donald Trump that Tillerson described as “about the world,” the President offered him the position.

“I was supposed to retire in March, this month. I was going to go to the ranch to be with my grandkids,” he said, adding later: “My wife convinced me. She was right. I’m supposed to do this.”

here and around the world.

Tillerson, if you don't respect the job or even want the job,
then you should leave now. There are many who are more
capable and good hearted than you.

I guess being a CEO of a corporation just isn't quite as easy as being a responsible politician.
And as the O-range-a-tan learned that this health care stuff is a lot harder than he thought, just maybe being a responsible politician and having to play on a MUCH broader stage IS way more difficult than screwing consumers by price gouging or providing shoddy merchandise or questionable food products while worrying about your golden parachute so you can have time to play with the grandkids...And corporations want less regulation? For what, to make it even easier to screw the public?

In politics, it seems those who can, do. Those who can't should stay in business...and let the real politicians help those poor corporations! Isn't that THEIR job? /s

Who would have thought?

And people who hate their jobs always do shit work and get fired. Quit while you're ahead.
And you might want to ask your wife why, this close to retirement age, she wants you gone from the house and stressed out as much as taking the position of SoS will do to you...

excerpt of his opening statement from January 11, 2017 (seems so long ago!!)

Read Rex Tillerson's opening statement during the Senate confirmation hearing

snip...In this campaign, President-elect Trump proposed a bold new commitment to advancing American interests in our foreign policy. I hope to explain what this approach means and how I would implement that policy if confirmed as Secretary of State.

Americans welcome this rededication to American security, liberty, and prosperity. But new leadership is incomplete without accountability. If accountability does not start with ourselves, we cannot credibly extend it to our friends or our adversaries.

We must hold ourselves accountable to upholding the promises we make to others. An America that can be trusted in good faith is essential to supporting our partners, achieving our goals, and assuring our security.

We must hold our allies accountable to commitments they make. We cannot look the other way at allies who do not meet their obligations; this is an injustice not only to us, but to longstanding friends who honor their promises and bolster our own national security...snip
