The day after the flaming out of U.S. President Donald Trump's first major legislative initiative, his supporters across America were lashing out - at conservatives, at Democrats, at leaders of his Republican Party in Congress.
Only Trump himself was spared their wrath.
Many voters who elected him appeared largely willing to give him a pass on the collapse of his campaign promise to overhaul the U.S. healthcare system, stressing his short time in office.
"Being a businessman, he'll not take 'no' for an answer," said Tony Nappi, a 71-year-old from Trinity, Florida, one of the many disappointed Republicans on his weekend softball team. "He'll get the job done."

It's a circular argument. He is the big, bold strong man standing up to all of the traditional institutions or leaders; everytime he loses, they blame it on those people, institutions or whomever treated him unfairly. They rise up to support him even more.

That's why we have leaders. They accept the praise for winning and the derision for losing. #45 is a fake president and the real loser.

(10,929 posts)I think a lot of the Trump voters thought he was going to magically solve their problems -- besides fix healthcare, he's going to bring back coal-mining jobs to Appalachia and manufacturing jobs to the rust belt, fix the trade balance, cut all our taxes, bring back 4% economic growth ...
Given his business skills and all that... well, there is no way anyone can think as highly of his deal-making and his "get-it-doneness" after this crash and burn. Especially with having a considerable House majority of the same party.
They may tell reporters and pollsters how great he is, but deep down I'm sure most of them are starting to entertain some grave doubts.

I pray everyday that this fraud will be removed from office along with all those in his campaign and party that participated in the cyber war against the US and her election via Ru$$ia. Maybe they all come to know the pain they have caused OUR country as it apparently was not theirs.

Apparently, the only person who thinks Trump shares some blame in the fiasco is Joel Martin, a 21-year-old Republican and Trump supporter:
I think we can try to reach out the Joel Martin-type Trump supporters. They are young, not set in their ways, and have some ability to reason and use logic. The other deplorables, sadly, are lost causes. We just have to outnumber them at the polls.

(14,167 posts)Many solid Democrats started off as Republicans in their youth. I have to believe that a solid education along with critical thinking skills and some common sense will lead these young Trumpistas to come around eventually.
The young ones are, in many ways, the group with the most to lose. They're graduating college with a mountain of debt and fewer well-paying job prospects than a generation ago. The American Dream is just that -- a dream, and not reality for non-wealthy youth. Trump will only make that worse, especially rolling back the student loan provisions Obama put in place to give graduates some breathing room.

(32,833 posts)Ryan wrote most of this "healthcare" bill and it was mostly put together even before Trump was the GOP candidate.
So you know, it's easy for Trump to blame the fiasco on Ryan, or somebody else.
What does he care about healthcare for poor people, anyway? The only thing that bothers Trump is the fact that Obama's name is on Obamacare. But hell, the Republicans were the ones who came up with that name.

He just gave my 86 year old mom an expensive gun, which I'm sure she paid for, as she made him a signatory on her credit card, and gave him a card.
He's a true blood trumpster, who gets paid a lot for fitting into that rigid mindset. He will retire in 1pc. Yet, he has a likable side, and can be funny. There is always underlying tension between us, because we really hate each others values.
I can't believe we were born of the same parents. Maybe there was a hospital mistake.

(4,254 posts)I am deaf in one ear and have just 40% hearing in the other since I had meningitis when I was a baby. I never got a hearing aid until 30. (Cost too much when I was a child. ) I spent most of my time reading in the library and home. It is lonely being deaf but I traveled the world when I read Look, Time, Life and National Geographic. Our family never read anything but sports pages and sales ads. I was the weird one. My mother said I was weird because I would go in my room and read. I loved History, English, and Geography in school. I was profoundly affected by the movie ON THE BEACH and the trial of Adolph Eichemann in Israel. Then came the civil rights riots and protests. And then came Viet Nam and the assassinations of JFK, Bobby Kennedy and MLK. I remember the day of the Cuban crises and a neighbor running over to our house so upset. My mother was on her way out to go shopping. She was unaware of what was happening and did not care. Our poor neighbor was crying her eyes out.
I left America for Canada August 15th, 1969, my brother's birthday and Woodstock was happening. I never returned to live. I was accepted with my husbsnd as a refugee by Canada.
My brother and I were close still, but when Obama became president he changed. He watched FOX cable all the time and became a RW nut. I saw him uncoverd and a big racist like those he listened to. He hates minorities and refugees. He believes in guns for everyone. Probably has one.
Maybe if things get worse, Canada may be accepting Americans as refugees. For those interested see what kind of occupations are needed and learn french.
I love Canada. I finally fit in.

Very awed that your daughter had hearing loss like me due to meningitis. I wanted to be a nurse but realized i did not like science. I figured my hearing losses would not be safe for patients. I had meningitis 3 times. 10 months, 2 years and 7 years old.. Did not get a hearing aid till I was 30. It is helpful but does not give me great hearing . I can't hear whispers. Could not hear my son and husband when they spoke to me as they were dying. I speech read.

You must have family to keep you in the USA. I have 3 Trump brothers and cousins in the USA. My husband and younger son dead. Older son has manic depression in England. He will not communicate.

(5,730 posts)Lucky we lived very near Scott and White Hospital at the time, a residential training facility. It is very rare, but she was diagnosed immediately, even over the phone. They told me to rush her in. As I walked into the ER, literally as the doors were opening, I was met by seven Drs and nurses, who took her immediately from my arms, without my even going through Registration. They kept her for several hours, and then she spent weeks in the hospital.
(Her father, who fortunately was away for the evening speaking, came later to the hospital, irate, that I had taken her into the hospital, without consulting him, and said he could have handled it, without getting a medical bill. We were lawyers.)
She has other hearing complications also, unrelated to her meningitis. Vestibular Aqueduct Syndrome and other things. She had a very difficult childhood for that and other reasons...divorce, single parent, much more. I tried to compensate, but it was very hard for her. In college, she had note takers, but they often did not show. She reads lips well, but many professors had foreign accents. All of school was very stressful, from very young, bullying, even into grad school. She had a special phone to call her patients, and another student stole it for spite.
I was stunned when I read your post. You have had some tragic experiences. I am very sorry those things happened in your life. You are obviously brave and resilent.
My daughter feared she could never hear her children speak. Having a cat and dog helped her, as the cat would perk up when she needed to be alerted to something. She has aids, but as you know, hearing aids are not like having glasses for sight problems. With her conditions, they do little anyway, but even a little can be a lot. She is now married with a one and a three year old daughter, and.a loving husband. The kids both speak and sign.
I would leave my trumpster relatives for Canada with no problem. Fortunately, we live in different states and long distances away. My daughter lives notth and I am south, so I might even be closer to her. Mainly, I no longer like what our country stands for, in terms of values and decency. I am with the resistance. We should give the Statue of Liberty to Canada.

(4,254 posts)I am sure there were big medical bills for me. I can relate very much to the bullying your daughter had. I am in awe she became a doctor. That was a challenge.
Whe when my son was a newborn i was so afraid of not hearing . One time I put a mirror under his nose and mouth so I could see his breathe.
It was intuitive feelings that woke me in the night when they woke up..
I am happy your daughter is happily married with two kids.
Glad you are in the resistance. I am too up here. I speak up for our refugees. Some Canadians dont want any. Thank goodness there are more kind Canadians then those. Most of my friends love Obama and the democrats. I just hope trump and his repugs don't destroy the USA.

(15,561 posts)from what I understand this abomination of a law they proposed was going to require seniors to pay more. I don't know all the details. AARP came out against it, and from past experience, you don't mess with AARP if you're in congress.
I still stand by the fact that once you're that old, you've seen plenty in your lifetime and as a man of his age, the actuarial charts only give him a few more years of life span if he's lucky, so why so much negativity? Let's face it. It's not the law they hate, it's the person with his name on it, so grandly given to the law by the party that has opposed it for years.
