Bridgegate Scandal:Christie Ally Bill Baroni Gets Two Years in Prison

Source: NBC

A former ally of New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie was sentenced to two years in prison and 500 hours of community service Wednesday for engineering lane closures at the George Washington Bridge as alleged retaliation against a Democratic mayor who didn't endorse the governor.

Bill Baroni, who served as deputy executive director of the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, learned his fate from U.S. District Judge Susan Wigenton. His conspirator Bridget Anne Kelly is set to be sentenced later Wednesday.

Actress Kirstie Alley is throwing her support behind Republican presidential front-runner Donald Trump.

“HELLO BOYS! this is my formal endorsement of @realDonaldTrump & I’m a woman! (last I checked),” Alley tweeted Friday evening.

The actress also voiced support for former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani, who announced this week he was voting for Trump in the New York primary later this month.

In January, the “Cheers” star said she admired Trump for shaking up the political debate.

“Donald Trump, whether you like him or you don’t like him, is waking this country up,” she said.

“If you hate him, you’re going to talk about how much you hate him,” she added. “If you love him, you’re going to talk about how much you love him.”

Really disgusting, and shocking given her past support of Democrats, and liberal causes.

So shocked I had to look it up to see if that wasn't some kind of mistake. It does look like she somewhat came to her senses towards the end, but not good enough imo. too bad, I'd always liked her.

I loved her on Cheers too. And yeah I heard she at the very least removed her endorsement to not backing anyone, but still, it revealed her underlining politics. She also endorsed Rudy Giuliani.

really not nearly enough of a punishment.
Should have been minimum 10 years, 25 would be better.
A slap on the wrist like this won't deter anyone in the future.

"91-Year-Old Woman Died Due to Delayed Response Resulting from NJ Bridge-Gate Traffic
by Josh Feldman | 6:31 pm, January 8th, 2014
submit to reddit
New details in the New Jersey traffic scandal that implicates people close to Governor Chris Christie show that the lane closures at the George Washington Bridge happened for political reasons, and on the same day, The Bergen Record has a new report saying that a 91-year-old woman died because of the traffic.

On four separate occasions, emergency responders were reportedly unable to respond to a situation due to the gridlock, and response time “doubled” in just two of those cases.

EMS coordinator Paul Favia made Fort Lee Mayor Mark Sokolich aware of these concerns in a letter last September, which included the 91-year-old woman who they could not get to in time.

It also took EMS seven minutes to reach an unconscious 91-year-old woman who later died of cardiac arrest at a hospital. Although he did not say her death was directly caused by the delays, Favia noted that “paramedics were delayed due to heavy traffic on Fort Lee Road and had to meet the ambulance en-route to the hospital instead of on the scene.”

Bridgegate sentencing: Bridget Kelly gets 18 months in jail, Bill Baroni 2 years

By Ted Sherman and Matt Arco | NJ Advance Media for NJ.com
on March 29, 2017 at 12:15 PM, updated March 29, 2017 at 2:47 PM

NEWARK -- Bridget Anne Kelly, a former top aide to the governor whose "time for some traffic problems" email became a focal point of the Bridgegate investigation, was sentenced to 18 months in prison Wednesday -- six months less than her co-defendant in the lane closure case.

Bill Baroni, the former deputy executive director of the Port Authority, received 24 months earlier in the day in a proceeding in the same courtroom before U.S. District Judge Susan Wigenton in Newark.

"This case from the beginning . . . was and is about the abuse of power," the judge said before handing down Kelly's sentence.

Kelly and Baroni were convicted in November of fraud and conspiracy in connection with the scandal that cast a dark shadow over Gov. Chris Christie's administration and loomed large over his failed presidential bid

Other than the usual bob and weave ... what was the real reason that none of this stuck to him in a criminal way? Others just taking the fall? Not enough "connection" betwen Christie and the dirty deed?
