Trump Seizes Coast Guard Address To Gripe About Media Coverage Of Him

President Donald Trump couldnt resist hijacking his own commencement speech Wednesday at the U.S. Coast Guard Academy to complain about how hes been treated in the wake of the various scandals that have rocked the White House over the past two weeks.
Look at the way Ive been treated lately, he griped, to laughter from the crowd. Especially by the media. No politician in history, and I say this with great surety, has been treated worse or more unfairly.
The commencement speech was Trumps first public comment since the New York Times reported on Tuesday that he asked former FBI Director James Comey to shut down his bureaus investigation into Trumps former national security adviser Michael Flynn, a request that Comey documented in a memo. The President, usually quick to weigh in on such reports on Twitter, fell silent and has not tweeted in almost a day. Trump on Wednesday advised cadets that over the course of their lives, they will need to fight, fight, fight.

Trump also pumped up his own presidency so far, crowing that he has accomplished a tremendous amount in a very short time.
He drew a parallel between the cadets commencement ceremony and his first international trip since taking office, which is scheduled to begin on Friday. As you leave this academy to embark on your exciting new voyage, Trump said, I am heading on a very crucial journey, as well. In a few days, I will make my first trip abroad as President.

"As long as you inherited 14 million dollars like I did, there's no reason you can't become a billionaire or multi-billionaire. Start a bogus university and rip off the students. Lie 72% of the time. Divulge classified information at every opportunity. And above all... grab women by the pussy!

: Comcast Is Ending Lawrence ODonnells MSNBC Show Because He Was Too Critical Of Trump
By Jason Easley on Tue, May 16th, 2017 at 10:12 pm
The Last Word is pulling in record ratings, but Lawrence O'Donnell's show will end when his contract expires because Trump put pressure on NBC to fire the host because he was too critical of the President.
The Last Word is pulling in record ratings, but Lawrence ODonnells show will end when his contract expires because Trump put pressure on NBC to fire the host because he was too critical of the President.
Showbiz 411 reported, My NBC sources say that ODonnells tireless criticism of Donald Trump is the cause of the trouble. ODonnell calls Trump a liar on TV almost every night. Says my observer: Phil Griffin fought back Trumps demands to Comcast chief Steve Burke that ODonnell get fired for years. But now hes president and now its Andy Lacks decision and Andy has never run a single promo for ODonnell and he wants access to Trump for Lester Holt interview and more.
There are logical reasons to doubt this report, like why would Comcast mess with a primetime lineup that is generating high ratings and great ad revenue? It doesnt make sense to mess with success.
However, there has been talk for the last few years that ODonnell would be moving on when his contract ended, but that was before MSNBCs primetime ratings surged and ODonnell began setting records for the network in the 10 PM ET timeslot. ODonnell has been a fiery and fearless critic of Trump. His criticism has been blunt and direct. He often says things that no one else will say on cable news.
If endlessly calling the president who endless lies a liar is a fireable offense, this is exactly why there is so little truth telling on cable news. Trump understands that at the end of the day it all comes down to access. NBC and Comcast would fire anybody not named Todd, Scarborough, or Maddow to protect their access to the president.
MSNBC fought for ODonnell, but it wasnt enough.
Now more than ever, the country needs voices like Lawrence ODonnells. If Comcast is allowing themselves to be bullied by a weak president, and the result will be a disservice to MSNBC viewers.
Lawrence ODonnell and his excellent staff at The Last Word deserve better than this.
