23-year-old man arrested in connection with Manchester attack: Police
Source: ABC
A 23-year-old man has been arrested in South Manchester in connection with the deadly explosion at an Ariana Grande concert in Manchester, England, Monday that killed 22 people and injured 59 others, Greater Manchester Police say.
The man believed to be the lone attacker died at the scene after using an improved explosive device, officials said, but police are still determining if the attacker acted alone or as part of a wider group, said United Kingdom Prime Minister Theresa May.

(13,305 posts)Am I reading this wrong or something? Do they technically arrest the person if they are dead?
Also "believed to be the lone attacker" and "police are still determining if the attacker acted alone".
It's early so I'm willing to believe I'm being obtuse here, but this seems like a poorly written article on a number of fronts, no?

(43,155 posts)Meaning, to tease it out of the article, that the man arrested is someone
connected in some way with the actual bomber.

(13,305 posts)Even factoring in not having had my morning coffee before reading this, it's really just atrociously written.

(14,075 posts)<excerpt> ISIS has claimed responsibility for the deadly explosion at an Ariana Grande concert in Manchester, England, Monday that killed 22 people and injured 59 others.
In a statement translated from Arabic, ISIS said that a soldier of the caliphate placed explosives among a gathering of crusaders -- meaning Christians -- at the Manchester Arena. The statement said about 30 were killed and about 70 were wounded.

(12,894 posts)to get the gist of what happened. It is a confusing story, so you're not alone. Maybe it was written in such a hurry that they didn't do an edit.

(12,894 posts)don't always coincide with news reporting. I've read some articles from our local news (DFW) and wondered who was doing the editing. Good grief, just stringing a sentence together would help to know the subject matter.

(101,312 posts)It seems that the controlled explosion in Fallowfield occurred on Elsmore Road. The Press Association has this:
Armed police sealed off Elsmore Road this morning as residents heard a large bang in the street.
Rosemary Ward, 21, said: They were all running out of the house when a big bomb went off. Thats obviously what it was because the whole house was shaking. Everyone was panicking. I heard there was 20 people in that one house. It was scary.
...
Ward added: It was the bang that shook us up. I started crying and just picked my child up. She said the police operation was at about 11.30am.
