Fernando Atienza, team leader of the emergency response unit of the Pasay City chapter of the Philippine Red Cross, said many victims were still trapped inside. Some of them suffered serious injuries because they jumped from the second floor of the hotel.

"At least 10 Philippine troops have been killed by air strikes aimed at taking out Islamist militants who are battling soldiers in the southern city of Marawi, the defence secretary said on Thursday.
A group of our military armed men were hit by our own airstrikes. Ten killed, defence secretary Delfin Lorenzana told reporters in Manila, adding that his forces had been up against 500 extremists who had a big plan to occupy Marawi.
He said 89 militants had been killed in the clashes, including foreign fighters from Indonesia, Malaysia, Saudi Arabia, Yemen and Chechnya.
Security forces have been battling militants flying the black flags of the Islamic State (IS) group in Marawi, a Muslim city in the predominantly Catholic Philippines."

P.S. The Trump Admin denounced this as a terrorist attack.
They have since corrected themselves.

Gunman kills himself after suspected robbery in Philippines casino: police
By Peter Blaza and Clare Baldwin | MANILA
A gunman killed himself after bursting into a Manila casino, firing shots and setting gaming tables alight, Philippine police said, sowing panic in a country on high alert after martial law was declared in the south.
Police said earlier the man's motive was likely robbery and that the incident was not terror-related.
National police chief Ronald dela Rosa told DZMM radio the lone gunman had not aimed his assault rifle at people at the Resorts World Manila entertainment complex during the hours-long drama that began shortly after midnight (12.00 p.m. ET), and may have been trying to steal casino chips.
Around dawn, the body of the suspected gunman was found in a hotel room in the complex, which is close to Ninoy Aquino International Airport and an air force base.

Philippine authorities say at least 34 bodies have been found in a casino and hotel complex in Manila, following a shooting incident by a lone gunman.
Most of the dead appear to have suffocated from thick smoke after the man set fire to casino tables, sources local told news outlet ABS-CBN.
The gunman began shooting at TV monitors in Resorts World Manila in the early hours of Friday morning.
Police said he later killed himself by setting himself on fire.
The incident sparked a security lockdown. Authorities initially said there were no casualties, but appear to have only just found the bodies while sweeping the complex in the last few hours.
