Megyn Kelly dropped as host for Sandy Hook groups gala over Alex Jones interview

....................................................
Kelly will no longer host the Promise Champions Gala, an annual event for the Sandy Hook Promise Foundation, a nonprofit gun violence prevention group founded by family members of some of the Sandy Hook shooting victims, the organization announced late Tuesday. The event is scheduled to be held Wednesday in Washington, D.C.
Sandy Hook Promise cannot support the decision by Megyn or NBC to give any form of voice or platform to Alex Jones and have asked Megyn Kelly to step down as our Promise Champion Gala host, Nicole Hockley, co-Founder and Managing Director of the organization said in a statement. It is our hope that Megyn and NBC reconsider and not broadcast this interview.
.................................
Even Jones himself publicly questioned the interview.
Im calling for @megynkelly to cancel the airing of our interview for misrepresenting my views on Sandy Hook, he tweeted Monday afternoon, along with a 41-minute YouTube video.
............................
My listeners questioned it.
I played devils advocate by saying maybe none of it happened and it was all fake, Jones said in the video. The other side of me believes those parents Ive seen on TV, and real mass shootings happen, so it probably did happen.........................

Kelly actually used Trumps praise of Jones as justification for her interview.!

My God, get her off the network permanently. Or put her on CNBC, at least some of the people who watch that are conservatives.

(81,487 posts)Yeah, how 'bout that. "Probably didn't happen." Weasel words if ever there were any. Yeah, ask those still-grieving parents who'll NEVER get over this, about the "probably" part.
He is lower than low. And giving him a platform on a mainstream network is damn near criminal. There are some people I really don't think we need to hear from. Don't need to hear their "explanations" or "justifications" or "excuses" for this shit. Alex Jones almost got people killed spreading shit about that Washington DC pizza joint being the back-room ground-zero for a child molestation ring supposedly run by Hillary Clinton. Some jerk from farther south drove up to "investigate it for himself," WITH his trusty assault rifle in hand, and could have shot people there - ALL of them totally innocent and probably oblivious to the garbage Alex Jones loves to spread.
He IS human garbage. He doesn't deserve a mainstream media pulpit. Even with the First Amendment to hide behind. Just as you're not supposed to yell "Fire!" in a crowded theater, even though the First Amendment supposedly allows for it, what he does takes that WAY overboard. In my opinion anyway.

(16,423 posts)First he says that he played devil's advocate... which means that he doesn't believe that the Sandy Hook shooting was staged.
"The other side of him" believes the parents... which means the same.
That statement doesn't make sense: "One part of me believes that it was real, but the other part of me believes it was real."

Broad brush and all that.
Apparently someone at NBC has decided to steal FOX viewers -- who incidentally trend upwards in years and are melanin-deficient. I'm not sure why they think this is a good idea.
I'm sticking with MSNBC for Rachel Maddow and several others who bring in good guests, but am not interested in any FOX escapees unless they've had a real change of heart. Shenanigans like bringing Alex Jones in for a chat are an unspeakably bad idea.

although this is literally how the country gets pushed to the right: give credibility to the formerly unimaginable by having the crackpottery get into the "mainstream" corporate media. America has deliberately and cynically been desensitized to the illogical.
Oh, and Megyn is a blonde, cynically exploitative tool.

Maybe she doesn't get she's not on faux noise anymore.
Hell, they didn't even have Alex Jones on.
She's the "Peter Principle" in action, way above her pay grade of just being talking points spewing eye-candy for middle-aged and older male wingers and other deplorables.
And they lost Tamron Hall for someone who thinks it's a good idea to interview a nut job like Jones.
And she defends it by saying "it's my job as a journalist to shine light on it". Where the hell did she drag up that amateur hour cliche from, the high school yearbook committee?
Actual journalists know it's irresponsible to give a national platform for nut job conspiracy pushers.

Kelly later interviewed former Los Angeles Police Department Detective Mark Fuhrman a man who knows a thing or two about racism and community policing about how suspended Corporal Eric Casebolt treated Dajerria Becton, including whether he should have pulled his gun on her.
Fuhrman, surprisingly, said that Cpl. Casebolt handled the situation poorly, and that there was no cause for him to have pulled his gun. Fuhrman explained that he had probably panicked because he had run out of handcuffs, but that he shouldnt have been handcuffing the teens in the first place.
Kelly leapt to Cpl. Casebolts defense, saying that Becton was no saint either, and noting that she had been told to walk away and hadnt. Im sure [Cpl. Casebolt] didnt know she was 14 at the time, Kelly said, suggesting that if he had, he wouldve treated her differently.

why was Murdoch willing to lose hundreds of millions on faux to keep it afloat for years, until it became profitable? Because these RW outlets exist for not only making money but--even more importantly--to promulgate an agenda. That agenda of course boils down to cutting taxes and deregulating business. The window dressing is: preventing your money from going to the undeserving, and regulations hurt freedom.
And it's worked, unfortunately, on too many Muricans. And Megyn's blondeness is a factor--it's relevant because it's part of the commodity of pretty, blonde female that appeals to the predominantly older, white audience and hence is used to catapult the propaganda.

(182,883 posts)26. I'll make a prediction - this wasn't a good move for either of the parties
I'm no TV executive (they never make mistakes) but...
For her
We all know she was in a toxic situation, of her own choosing - she had other offers when she decided to go into broadcasting, so she had to get out. NBC is archenemy #1 for Fox viewers so expect almost no carry over audience. Trying to position herself as one of the top echelon of newscasters is a stretch but you have to take that leap I guess. It's a leap.
For NBC
Head to head against 60 Minutes? With basically a summer time launch? That's a big leap.
If you are watching TV and that stopwatch starts clicking you are staying in to see the teasers. 60 Minutes is still the Cadillac of TV news magazines. Different reporters, different stories. 60 pioneered the immediate intro long before Seinfeld did for sitcoms which is now the norm.
I think NBC is under appreciating the carryover from the flagship O'Reilly show. If you'd sit and listen to Hannity, you'd listen to anything.
The camera loves her and she is bright. Getting Putin - who is like a baby pigeon to America, we know he exists but we never actually see him - is a huge scoop. I may watch or watch video simply to observe him. She may have a big first night or two or three and her show will make money but I don't think this is what NBC hopes it will be.
Time will tell. tick tick tick tick
