Lipinski Primary Foe Marie Newman Wins Daily Kos Endorsement
Source: Patch
LA GRANGE, IL -- Daily Kos announced their endorsement of Marie Newman for Illinois 3rd Congressional District. The endorsement comes as the organization prepares for the 2018 election cycle with a focus on electing more and better Democrats everywhere."
Daily Kos is an online political community with a quarter-million registered users and over 2 million monthly visitors. It is a hub for community advocacy, news, and more.
I am so grateful to have earned the endorsement of Daily Kos, Newman said in a written statement. As an organization that has been such a vital hub for news and advocacy in the Democratic community, it means a lot that Daily Kos sees what we see in the 3rd working families and small businesses ready for positive change and true representation.
Newman contrasts sharply with the entrenched incumbent Lipinski. She says she is pro-choice and supports gay rights, Obamacare (and would have voted for it in Congress unlike Lipinski), DACA, and gun control.

(70,239 posts)...Marie Newman is the Democrat in this race that is exciting voters in the 3rd district because she is the Democrat is this race , said campaign spokeswoman Anastasia Scourtes. Everywhere Marie goes in the district she hears from people who are fed up with a congressman who supports Donald Trumps positions more than their own.
Daily Kos called Lipinski one of the worst Democrats in the U.S. House in its ringing endorsement of Newman, who is running against Lipinski in the 2018 Illinois primary.
He supports amending the Constitution to ban same-sex marriage; he voted to overturn a regulation preventing states from withholding funds for Planned Parenthood; and he even reportedly sent some of his precinct workers to help a vocal pro-Trump mayor win re-election earlier this year, said David Nir, political director of Daily Kos. Lipinskis district in the Chicago suburbs voted 55-40 for Clinton, so it can do much better, and marketing consultant Marie Newman is that better choice in next years Democratic primary.

I don't doubt that this guy could be gotten rid of during a time of power for the Dems if what is reported is correct, but not now. Is he in a right wing district? Are we in a situation that a Dem to liberal for the district wins a primary and loses a general? Every seat counts.

(804 posts)A Republican is not going to win it, period. And Lipinski is the worst kind of democrat and needs to go.

(68,582 posts)sometimes a bitter primary does elect a GOP even in a blue state.

(68,582 posts)a district like this could result in electing a GOP..honestly. This is so stupid. And the current rep is the son of the guy who held the district for years...once he is gone, a GOP will be elected in my opinion. Any Dem is better than any Republican.
"Although the district has elected Democrats to Congress in 24 of the last 25 elections, and has voted for the Democratic nominee in the last four presidential races, there is also a strong tradition of social conservatism in the area which has resulted in the election of conservative Democrats, as well as greater support for Republicans than might be expected based on voter identification by party."

(804 posts)who can win this seat. The "strong tradition of social conservatism" is due to the fact that it's a very Catholic area and has faded as the old people have died. There is also no Republican organized infrastructure here.
Please stop the hand-wringing - Lipinski needs to go, the sooner the better. (He voted against the ACA, among other things.) and we're going to need ALL possible resources to get rid of him, as he's a family friend of House Speaker Mike Madigan and they WILL run a 3rd candidate to split the vote and get Lipinski re-elected. They've done it before and they're going to do it this time.
