The whole thing is nefarious:Ex-CIA spy says Trump Jr. fell head first into a classic Russian trap

Source: Raw Story

During a CNN panel discussion on Trump Jr.’s meeting with Russian attorney Natalia Veselnitskaya, former CIA spy Lindsay Moran said that she has seen the Russian government use these kinds of tactics in the past on American citizens, who may unwittingly find themselves compromised by Russian foreign agents.

“Legality aside, this is Russian intelligence tactics at their best,” she said. “Let’s promise Trump Jr. something that he wants, lure him in, bait and switch. It doesn’t matter whether they talked about nefarious activities with him at the meeting — the whole thing is nefarious.”

Moran went on to say that it was particularly disturbing that Trump son-in-law Jared Kushner, who now has security clearances as part of his work at the Trump White House, was present at the meeting.

Really, the best case scenario for the whole gang is that it was all over before the Russian's really got anywhere. Typically they recruit by getting you to "help" them in legal ways. Slowly it gets closer to illegal and somewhere along the line they have you on a hook.

The absolute best case scenario for the Trumps is that it never got far enough to move into the illegal range. But in classic fashion, they may have made the mistake of trying to cover up that they were ever involved in the first place.

These assholes went *looking* for help from their Russian contacts. They *knew* that a win was a total longshot and that winning would require cheating. And, their upbringing tells them that they DESERVE to win, so winning by whatever means necessary is by definition right and just. That is their sick mentality.

They were all too eager to give the country away, if it meant they would win (as they believe they're entitled to do) and get to loot America from within. Do not cast them as "unwitting" or "trapped" or anything that suggests they were pawns who got tricked. They are criminals!

allies' influence on maneuvering Pence into the VP slot? Jr. flew to some meeting or meetings around the time Rump had to choose his VP. Rump famously did not want the Kochs' Pence and tried to back out at the last minute, but Jr. and others persuaded him he couldn't.

What was Jr. offered for his support for the VP slot? Speculation, of course, but it's based on months of watching this venal, amoral, little weasel operate.

being part of Rump's inner circle, but the Kochs far less clear. They famously despise Rump and refused to support him. My impression has always been that, when "the people" chose Rump to spite the pub leadership and its billionaire puppeteers, the Kochs shifted their focus to using Rump by subverting his power to their own purposes, very much including developing allies in his inner circle, almost certainly including family, and persuading him to fill high offices with their choices.

Seems to me these enormously powerful and lawless people, with a very large and very sophisticated operation, HAD to know a great deal about Russian involvement with Rump and election interference. They must have tried to use that to their benefit, developing their own strategy alongside what they saw Putin doing. But we have been shown no evidence so far that they actively colluded with Russia themselves. They're not brilliant, but many of the people who work for them are, and it seems very likely that they kept carefully separate. Though I sure hope not!

As for Pence, should his involvement lead to serious legal problems, he's also disposable. Behind him in succession are, of course, Kochs ally Ryan, Koch ally Orrin Hatch, and Koch ally Rex Tillerson, plus a string of other Koch choices.

Former FBI agent Clint Watts's advice to Senate intelligence committee.

From Rachel Maddow interview in May:

MARTIN: That's a provocative statement that you gave the committee. What did you mean when you advised senators to, quote, "follow the trail of dead Russians"?

WATTS: From the Russian context, if they were meddling in the U.S. election and it was through financial relationships, maybe inducements that they wanted to push, they would try to close those off. And if you look over the past year, really year and a half, you've seen a string of senior Russian officials that have died, some of them obviously of natural causes but some of them under suspicious circumstances.

And so when I would be looking at this, that's where I would focus is why are these people dying strangely? And which one of those might've had financial connections?"

This was talking about possible illicit financial involvements with Russia, but I just thought I'd throw that in. One of the suspects for leaking the "Jr. meeting" is actually Russia also. But agree Mueller and his ferociously competent team are on it, and the indictments and trials will be horrifying, disgusting, and fascinating.

Mr. Mueller will teach him that, not his dad, who should have taught him, but taught him that he could get away with everything ..... wrong lesson
