House Republican threatens new Clinton investigations unless Democrats stop talking about Russia

Source: Think Progress

During a CNN interview Wednesday morning, Rep. Steve King (R-IA) issued a threat — if Democrats don’t move on from the enlarging scandal surrounding the Trump campaign’s possible collusion with Russia, Republicans will have no choice but to further investigate the Clintons.

“If this continues — this immobilization of the presidency over these kind of things — it’s gonna force Congress to do an investigation, a complete and thorough investigation, and that means go back all the way to the 650,000 emails of Anthony Weiner and look at [former FBI Director James] Comey and his activities,” the House Judiciary Committee members said.

Republicans are the greatest threat to the Republic without exception. Herr Trump's syncopates are of the same mentality who worshiped Hitler and sealed glorious destruction of Germany. If Americans don't come to their senses quickly we may very well be put on the road with the same glorious results. The MSM is totally compliant in allowing vicious lies to masquerade as having the same validity as truth. As the recent article published in "Mother Jones" stated the media has allowed a protective bubble of "civility" that allows propagandists to disseminate absurdly doctored stories to be aired as unchallenged truth. The result is that the right-wing ideologues lie without consequence and they succeed because they are lies are allow to be framed as "balanced" treatment.

It is my firm contention that this is the most serious challenge now facing the Republic that can only function if it is provided factual truth and have journalists who are committed to exposing the flagrant lies that are aired and published daily to deceive the less discerning citizens. Each day in which the right-wing extremists go unchallenged brings us closer to losing the battle for truth.

They're too ensconced in their "fake" GOP "values" to ever wake up from their self-induced coma. Unlike some here on DU, I think wasting assets trying to win these people over to the Democratic side is useless. I think we'd be better off getting the people in the urban areas to vote, with few or no exceptions. If we can get every state's cities to vote en masse for Democrats, the RepubliCONS don't stand a chance IF we can prevent the GOP from scrubbing legit voters from the voter rolls.

a few hundred blowhards and carnival barkers whose jobs depend on echoing limbaugh and a few other talk radio gods and their careers depend on never admitting they're wrong.

the talk radio gods have been setting this up since inauguration - that it's an obama/clinton deep state liberal media conspiracy with sally yates, susan rice, comey etc. liberal ignorance of talk radio continues to give republicans like king cover and support to enable and intimidate them to keep up their obstruction and use shit like this alt reality as leverage to get compromise to save their asses. blue dog dems in talk radio states feel it too and will help these motherfuckers skate or at least greatly minimize the charges against them and who will be charged.

if americans want justice and to reduce the chances of this continuing and if they want a new election they need to stop ignoring talk radio - the biggest political mistake in history.

turn on any republican talk radio station in the country and hear these dumbasses in denial reinforcing themselves and keeping shits like king in line and in denial.

trump supporters won't come around until liberals start destroying the talk radio psyops with total boycotts and protests

King won 61% of his vote. We have no one to run against him at this point. Maybe you could move Ames (Story County) to the 1st and give us a shot there? That would be gerrymandering if you look at the physical map.

After all - he is a representative of their Party and he casts a very negative shadow over them.

They have to realize the longer they draw this out the worse it will be for them come 2017 and 2020 elections.

The only thing I can surmise is that they feel that the fix is in for those elections and are not concerned about losing their jobs. OR - that Trump is somehow blackmailing the Party to make them cooperate and protect him.

How Ex-Spy Christopher Steele Compiled His Explosive Trump-Russia Dossier

Howard Blum
March 30, 2017 5:00 am

<SNIP>

In September 2015, as the Republican primary campaign was heating up, he was hired to compile an opposition-research dossier on Donald Trump. Who wrote the check? Simpson, always secretive, won’t reveal his client’s identity. However, according to a friend who had spoken with Simpson at the time, the funding came from a “Never Trump” Republican and not directly from the campaign war chests of any of Trump’s primary opponents.

But by mid-June 2016, despite all the revelations Simpson was digging up about the billionaire’s roller-coaster career, two previously unimaginable events suddenly affected both the urgency and the focus of his research. First, Trump had apparently locked up the nomination, and his client, more pragmatic than combative, was done throwing good money after bad. And second, there was a new cycle of disturbing news stories wafting around Trump as the wordy headline splashed across the front page of The Washington Post on June 17 heralded, INSIDE TRUMP’S FINANCIAL TIES TO RUSSIA AND HIS UNUSUAL FLATTERY OF VLADIMIR PUTIN.

Simpson, as fellow journalists remembered, smelled fresh red meat. And anyway, after all he had discovered, he’d grown deeply concerned by the prospect of a Trump presidency. So he found Democratic donors whose checks would keep his oppo research going strong. And he made a call to London, to a partner at Orbis he had worked with in the past, an ex-spy who knew where all the bodies were buried in Russia, and who, as the wags liked to joke, had even buried some of them.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
It was not a Republican or a Democratic candidate who asked for the research on Trump, but PACs on opposing sides.
Some of the earlier claims were that it was Jeb! who started the ball rolling, and it might have been some of his donors. But it was NOT Hillary Clinton or her campaign that had the research for the Steele Dossier done.
"Congressman King avoided the draft with "2S" deferments in 1967, 1968 and 1969. Nine days after receiving his third deferment, President Richard Nixon signed an amendment to the Military Service Act of 1967 that created the draft lottery. Under the new lottery system, draft deferments were still allowed. Because he had been receiving deferments under the old draft system, King was still shielded from being drafted in the lottery system as long as he maintained his deferments and stayed in school."
Neither Clinton holds any sort of public office right now. But,hey , lock 'em both up! The Republicans have spent the last eight years obstructing and have forgotten what Congress's role in governing is supposed to be. This would get them off the hook for doing anything else for four more years.
These retaliatory punks will find out that they'll have to pay private investigators, anyway, since the FBI won't likely bother with specious or minor quid pro quo claims.
The Dems are pretty clean when it comes to Russia or any other hostile nation.
Mostly because Trump keeps insulting them and calling them "fake."
Every time Trump dumps on them, they are pushed to dig deeper and find more dirt. And even if that didn't happen, Trump family members and other inside sources keep dropping new nuggets of pure gold into the reporters' laps.
Just because the Democrats talk about what has been found by the reporters does not mean it will stop if the Democrats ignore the stories that are coming out. Dolt45 has made sure that the reporters hate him and that they will do everything they can to find every scrap of evidence that they can.
