AP: Scalise out of intensive care unit
By DIAMOND NAGA SIU 07/12/2017 12:23 PM EDT

House Majority Whip Steve Scalise (R-La.) is out of the intensive care unit at MedStar Washington Hospital Center but remains in serious condition, according to the Associated Press.

The Associated Press, naming an unidentified source, published its report Wednesday saying the Louisiana congressman was moved out of the ICU. The congressman was readmitted into the ICU on the evening of July 6 due to an infection.

Dr. Jack Sava, director of trauma at MedStar Washington Hospital Center, said previously that Scalise was originally “in critical condition with an imminent risk of death” when he first arrived at the hospital.

Scalise and four other people were injured June 14 while practicing for the annual Congressional baseball game — one injured their ankle and four were hit by the gunman. The man who opened fire was shot and killed on the scene by security detail who were already at the field.

I believe you misunderstood me or perhaps I didn't express myself clearly. If I intended my post to be "ugly," I would have suggested something far more nefarious than that I hoped Congressman Scalise would stay in the hospital a little while longer. Accordingly, here's my response, Skittles.

First, I do not wish Representative Scalise ill. I'm disgusted that our society produces the violence that befell him and I hope he recovers his health. He was the victim of another of the many gun rampages that have become normalized in our once-great nation. In fact, it's very possible that he might not be able to return to the House. From what I've read, his gunshot wounds are extremely dangerous with the accompanying infections. Additionally, I suspect he's in significant physical pain and as a compassionate man, I don't wish that upon him.

Second, in practical terms, his politics is really all that I care about. His policies and support for the right-wing of the GOP disgusts me as well as his unfortunate shooting. My point was simply that if he's not in his office, the damage he can accomplish is somewhat limited. This gives our side a tiny advantage for a brief period of time.

Lastly, I was concerned that my snarky and unsubstantiated post could be misinterpreted. So let me make this point clear: Representative Scalise is a danger to our country. According to Wikipedia, "In 2013, Scalise voted against reauthorizing the Violence Against Women Act." And this, "Scalise supported President Donald Trump's 2017 executive order to impose a temporary ban on entry to the U.S. to citizens of seven Muslim-majority countries."

Sorry, but there's also this gem: "Scalise was an opponent of gun control who had touted his "A+ rating" from the National Rifle Association." Ironic, wouldn't you say?

As a human, I hope he recovers and can spend more time with his loving family. As a politician, he's a danger to all of the values that Democrats believe in.

In fact, I've kept him in my prayers as is my practice.

I realize that he has had access to all of the best medical care available, and I don't begrudge him that. However, I want everyone to have that same access. So I'm hoping for an epiphany for this man. I hope he realizes how fortunate he is.

I won't be holding my breath, but I can hope.

I don't care if it is one of ours or one of theirs, none of them needs to be shot by a crazy sniper.

I do the best I can to keep my dislike from turning into hatred.

So far I have managed.
