BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) Descendants of hundreds of black men who were left untreated for syphilis during an infamous government study want a judge to give them any money remaining from a $9 million legal settlement over the program.

(128,924 posts)went combing through to find this and is trying to claw it back. It's just like what happened with the original Pigford (black farmers) settlement and the difficulty of a number of the affected getting the paperwork in (with many unaware of it) - which lead to Pigford II - which intensified the effort to better identify and inform those who were unaware or unable to file in time...
The same needs to happen with this given the time period that this atrocity took place and in probably a majority of the cases, requiring descendants to apply because people DIED due to purposeful lack of treatment by the government.
Fuck them.
