Senate Dems on Kid Rock run: We can't afford to treat this as a joke

By Jennifer Hansler, CNN

Updated 7:20 PM ET, Sat July 15, 2017

(CNN)Musician Kid Rock is insisting his tweet about running for the Senate is no joke, and at least two high-profile Senate Democrats are taking him at his word.

"I know a lot of people are thinking: this is some sort of joke, right?" Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren wrote in an email to supporters obtained by CNN and first reported by the Boston Herald.

"Well, maybe this is all a joke — but we all thought Donald Trump was joking when he rode down the escalator at Trump Tower and announced his campaign, too," she said.

"And sure, maybe this is just a marketing gimmick for a new album or tour — but we all thought Donald Trump was just promoting his reality TV show, too," she added.

Could this silly jackass actually become a senator?

Yes. Yes he could.

The past two years have proven that a large portion of the American populace has absolutely zero standards when it comes to who they vote to represent them. These are terrifying times.

And long before we even entered the era of that orange scumbag, right-wing celebrities have frequently used their name recognition to win government offices that they have absolutely no business holding. People become mesmerized by their fame and completely overlook their total lack of qualifications. I know this particular celebrity is a has-been, D-list "musician" of little talent but that doesn't matter.

It's time we say "enough" to this idiocy. Fuck Kid or Robert or whatever the hell his name is and all those other entitled right-wing asshole celebrities who think they deserve to hold elected office just because they're rich and "famous".

Entertainers who have proven embarrassingly incompetent as political leaders include Jesse "The Body" Ventura (Minnesota governor) and Donald Trump.

So yes, you're right. It can go either way.

Trump has convinced me that anyone can get elected in this messed-up country. You don't have to be smart, qualified, serious, dignified, likable, or a decent human being to win.

In both March 1991 and September 1997, Rock faced misdemeanor charges stemming from alcohol-related arrests in Michigan.[40]
In February 2005, Rock was charged with assault on DJ Jay Campos in 'Christies Cabaret' strip club. He pleaded no contest and was sued for $575,000 by Campos.[41] Rock was charged with assault on Mötley Crüe drummer Tommy Lee at MTV's 2007 Video Music Awards, he pleaded guilty.[42] In October 2007, Rock was involved in a brawl at a Waffle House in Atlanta, Georgia and charged with simple battery.[43][44] He pleaded nolo contendere ("no contest&quot to one count, was fined $1,000, required to perform 80 hours of community service and complete a six-hour course on anger management.[45]
In January 2015, Rock was criticized by fans and animal rights activists for killing a cougar while on a hunting trip. Fellow rocker Ted Nugent defended this incident, calling this action "necessary", "legal" and "beneficial".[46]
Sex tape[edit]
Kid Rock and Scott Stapp, singer of the band Creed, appear in a sex tape from 1999 in which the two are seen partying and receiving oral sex.[47] California pornography company Red Light District planned to release the tape in 2006, but both Rock and Stapp filed with the California courts to sue Red Light District and stop the tape's distribution.[48]

He'd make great role model for our youth. Drunk and disorderly, assault and sex tape.

Americans are fine voting for people with a checkered past.

His ideas and beliefs are worse than this shitty music.. that's what she needs to focus on.

...we really like to eff with the rest of America.

John McCain won the 2000 GOP primary. Bernie Sanders won the 2016 Democratic primary. and the iDJT won the state in the general election. All of them despite establishment opposition and trailing in the polls.

Sometimes I cannot help but call us "North Florida".

and what with all the info about election hacking, etc. I'm quite sure he didn't even win Michigan.

However, never underestimate the stupidity of many Michigan voters - especially the old, white male voters who are hoping the unions and blue collar jobs with top-level benefits are coming back. Plus, their "womenfolk" voted for Trump too because, well, they don't have an opinion of their own, so they have to vote the way their significant others do.

As I've said before, Michigan is vying for a spot next to Mississippi and Kentucky for the most ignorant voters.

Very liberal urban areas surrounded by red rural areas.

We have 2 good Democratic senators and it will be that way after 2018.

I don't see someone like Kid Rock playing well to the churchy types at all.

1) his brewery is a fail.

2) Kid Rock's "Made in Detroit" is not made in America - Stock apparel from India, Honduras, and the Dominican Republic is used - the only thing done in America is the printing of the designs. The company itself has seven full time employees. Yet more hypocrisy from the MAGA crew.

3) He liked Mitt Romney's idea of letting car companies go bust, yet he wants to represent Michigan.

Stabenow has to remind voters of her record . Ignore Kid Rock's music and criminal past - focus on who he aligns himself and the terrible ideas he co signs.

next ticket (and Matt Taibbi used it as the title of his Trump book).

Kid Rock is barely a quarter step above that.

Satire is impossible.

If I said the GOP will probably run Charles Manson next, he would be on a ballot somewhere before I finish the sentence.
