State Department head of diplomatic security resigns

Source: Washington Post

The head of the State Department’s diplomatic security bureau has resigned and will leave his post on Thursday, leaving the two top positions vacant for the foreseeable future in the bureau in charge of embassy security around the world.

Acting Assistant Secretary of State for Diplomatic Security Bill Miller announced his resignation and retirement from the State Department on July 19 in a note to staff, which I obtained. His last day of service will be July 27. Miller has been the top official in the Diplomatic Security Service since January, when the Senate-confirmed assistant secretary Gregory Starr was asked to resign.

Starr had been singled out by Republicans during the investigation of the Sept. 11, 2012, attack on the U.S. diplomatic mission in Benghazi, Libya. Starr was asked to resign after President Trump’s inauguration, along with a host of other senior State Department officials. This is common at the beginning of a new administration, although traditionally officials are not pushed out until replacements are found.

Miller, whose official title was principal deputy assistant secretary of state and director of the Diplomatic Security Service, resigned voluntarily and was not asked to resign or fired, a senior State Department official told me. He has been a member of the Diplomatic Security Service since 1987.

Tillerson hates the job and he isn't going to last. He is on vacation right now. The place is full of empty offices.

Lights are on but no one is there.

republicans are making it clear: they are going to continue to piss away 240+ years of the noble American experiment in democracy, and in our foundational respect toward all human beings: "we hold these truths as self-evident, that all men (and women) are created equal, etc."

republicans are choosing their party and its russian backers over the people of the USA. In so doing, they are leaving America - via gaping emptiness at the State Dept., FEMA, Coast Guard, and other key agencies - open to attack, defeat, and fascist subjugation.

Heinous. Vile. Execrable.

This is very worrying. We can't afford to be without the training, knowledge and experience of career professionals in our civil service, especially when the agencies will be headed up with Trump appointees. But who can blame them for leaving? I can't. There is only so much demoralization, abuse and crazy behavior that anyone can be expected to put up with.

Trump has about 85% of presidential appointees unfilled, mainly because he has NOT nominated many for Senate confirmation. Wonder what's going on? Could it be that Trump is rolling the dice that Sen. McConnell will close the current senate session, thus making it possible for Trump to fill-up his administration with recess appointments? Maybe that is why the Senate Majority Leader plans to keep the Senate working through the summer. That would be a huge swing in getting a Trump responsive government. 85% by recess appointment and loyal to the Orange Turd.

The guy is an ignorant lowlife who would be nothing more than a used car salesman if his father hadn't been wealthy. What the heck does he know about governing????? Having as advisors his family of grifters and a POS like Bannon doesn't help matters.

We are governed by a kakistocracy.
