June Foray, Voice of Bullwinkle Show's Natasha and Rocky, Dies at 99

Source: Variety

June Foray, the voice of “The Rocky and Bullwinkle Show’s” Rocky the Flying Squirrel and his nemesis Natasha Fatale of Boris and Natasha fame in the early 1960s and a key figure in the animation industry, died Thursday. She was 99.

Her close friend Dave Nimitz, confirmed her death on Facebook, writing “With a heavy heart again I want to let you all know that we lost our little June today at 99 years old.”

Foray was also the voice behind Looney Tunes’ Witch Hazel, Nell from “Dudley Do-Right,” Granny in the “Tweety and Sylvester” cartoons and Cindy Lou Who in Chuck Jones’ “How the Grinch Stole Christmas,” among hundreds of others.

The first lady of voice acting, one of the original members of animation organization ASIFA-Hollywood and founder of the annual Annie Awards, was also instrumental in the creation of the Oscars’ animated feature category.

It was always the best for both the kiddies and adults, just like the best of all animated narratives.

The best were always Rocky and Bullwinkle plus Looney Toons. The rest pale in comparison.

Including a number of WAV files I have downloaded onto my computer. So I'll be reminded of her every time my computer plays the Windows event, "Exclamation" : Thank You Mr. Know-It-All!

The WAV files can be downloaded from The Daily .WAV website and then personalized under Sounds settings.

And thanks for the video clips, A_H! Am I the only one who sees a striking resemblance between Fearless Leader and Vladimir Putin?

I've loved and admired June Foray's work all my life -- and that's a long time. Her voices ranged from sweet ingenues to lunatic old witches, and everything in between--plus a well-known Russian spy and a flying squirrel. I'm so grateful for her many contributions to the soundscape of my era.

R.I.P. to such an iconic voice actor who shared the stage with folks like Mel Blanc. Thank you for helping to make my childhood enjoyable and you will be missed!!

especially the horrible tweens and early teens. My gratitude to everybody who did voices and animation and writing for that highly twisted cartoon series is deep and abiding.

I met both of them very briefly. Once in 81 or 82..at a film festival.(Fritz) and Chuck at a showing of some of his animated works..in 1991. I never met June Foray, but she has been mentioned many times by those talking of 50s and 60s animation. She is one of the greatest voices ever.
