Trump may veto Russia sanctions bill that seeks to restrain his power
Source: MSN/Washington Post
President Trumps spokesman suggested Thursday that Trump may veto a massively popular bill designed to restrain his ability to roll back sanctions against Russia, despite the very strong likelihood that lawmakers will have the votes to override it.
White House communications director Anthony Scaramucci said on CNN that Trump may sign the sanctions exactly the way they are, or he may veto the sanctions and negotiate an even tougher deal against the Russians, citing Trumps counterintuitive, counterpunching personality to explain why the president is considering a veto.
It is unlikely that promise will resonate well with members of Congress, many of whom have banded around the sanctions bill because they are concerned that Trump is fostering a too-warm relationship with Russian President Vladimir Putin, and they fear Trump will scale back election-related sanctions against Moscow.
Congress has approved an unprecedented oversight role for itself in the Russia-focused portion of the sanctions bill, which also stiffens punitive measures against Iran and North Korea. Under the bill, the president is required to notify Congress before making any alterations to Russia sanctions policy, and lawmakers then have 30 days in which they can block the president from implementing those changes.

(22,065 posts)First, I don't want to give Trump any of my money. In fact, I won't even golf at his courses, stay at his hotels or buy anything with his name on it.
Second, the tweets are an unfiltered view into Trump's persona. They illustrate just how far off the charts he is behaving.
Lastly, his tweets document his profound ignorance. For example, his tweet changing military policy regarding transgender service is not an official policy statement and the military won't follow it as an order. Trump just doesn't have a clue about his job or how government works.
Trump's tweets are enlightening. Let them continue.

(25,293 posts)Congress just needs to realize that they shouldn't believe the WH that Trump would negotiate an even tougher deal against the Russians. He won't do that. This is just a ploy.
If Trump vetoes these sanctions - the Congress needs to move swiftly and overturn his veto and stick it to Trump. They need to take a stand against this guy and this is a good place to start.

Put the proceeds into a trust for the Russian people (the money belongs to them), to be available to them when they toss out Putin and his criminal gang and establish a democratic government.

And it would strengthen Putin at home, where he is already wildly popular for how he is dealing with the Soviet Union's old enemy.
