Flake: Republicans who don't call out Trump are complicit

Source: The Hill

Sen. Jeff Flake (R-Ariz.) on Sunday said that Republican leaders who do not call President Trump out are complicit.

“I do think so,” Flake told CBS’s “Face the Nation” when asked if GOP leaders are complicit if they fail to call out Trump.

“I think that you know, obviously the last thing you want to do is wake up every morning and see a tweet and think, ‘I just---‘ you know, it’s tough not to just say, ‘I’m not going to respond.’ And we can’t respond to everything. But there are times when you have to stand up and say, ‘I’m sorry. This is wrong.’”

Flake said elected officials must hold each other responsible, whether it’s in the White House or in Congress.

and he is an ideologue to end all ideologues. He's a Mormon religious extremist. He is, however, highly unpopular in a purple state with a Republican primary challenger already declared for 2018 and McCain to be contrasted against.

to fall for it. Even Collins and Murkowski - yes, they voted in the interests of their constituents on this one but they are still Republicans. They are still aligned with a philosophy which has become, at its fundamental core, all about protecting their personal power and protecting the super rich. Yes, I wrote to thank both of them but I have not forgotten that they are Republicans.

We need be careful that we don't mistake "slightly less extreme" for being sane and reasonable. I am glad that Flake spoke out, but more appalled that so few on the right do. It is a sad reflection on the entire party.

Given McCain's speech in the Senate, where he sharply criticized the body for not getting anything done and (here's the important part) for not standing up and realizing that they are not subordinate to the President, that the Senate is equal to the Presidency. (something to that effect)

GOP Sen. Jeff Flake: Republicans Complicit If They Don’t Call Out Trump for Incivility
Joshua Roberts/Reuters

Arizona Senator Jeff Flake said on Sunday that Republicans who do not call out President Donald Trump for incivility are complicit. “There are times when you have to stand up and say, ‘I’m sorry, this is wrong,’” Flake said on CBS’ Face the Nation. “There are truths that are self-evident. And you’ve got to call—whether it’s the White House or other elected officials—to task when they’re not doing when they should.” Flake, a Republican, has been critical of the president, but commended him for the nomination of Neil Gorsuch to the Supreme Court and his efforts to reform regulations and the tax code.

for democrats if a batshit crazy beats flake......this senate seat becomes a very possible pick up with the correct democratic challenger and money. Conservatives wholesale attacks on medicaid, medicare and Social Security will not go unnotice by the Arizona senior voters. There are nearly 2,500,000 over the age of 60 and MANY of them VOTE. It will all about educating them on the evil of trump and his cutthroats are doing and want to do to medicaid, medicare and Social Security
