Source: The Hill

The New York Daily News is mocking the White House over senior adviser Stephen Miller’s comments during Wednesday's press briefing, at which Miller debated immigration policies and got into a heated exchange over the writing on the base of the Statue of Liberty.

“Grab Them By Their Liberty,” reads the banner headline of the New York tabloid, referencing President Trump’s infamous comments about women that came out during the 2016 presidential campaign.

The reality is that the poem was originally written in 1883, in order to raise money for the construction of the pedestal of the Statue of Liberty!

In 1903, a bronze tablet that bears the text of Emma Lazarus's sonnet, "The New Colossus" (1883), was presented by friends of the poet.
