The pets arent getting left behind.
Along with helping rescue nearly 2,000 people, a Nebraska group has rescued more than 100 dogs and other pets in the flood-ravaged Houston area since arriving last week.
Battalion Chief Brad Thavenet of Lincoln Fire and Rescue said the federal government has given specific direction to rescue groups that pets get taken out with their owners.
Thavenet, who spoke with reporters during a conference call Wednesday, said some owners wont leave unless their pets go along, so it makes sense to take the animals. He said members of the Nebraska group are pet owners and understand the connection people have with their animals.
