FEMA's Harvey funding down to $541M

Source: The Hill

BY NIV ELIS - 09/05/17 02:21 PM EDT

The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has just $541 million in funds left for disaster management related to Hurricane Harvey, according to a FEMA spokesperson on Tuesday.

The agency also has an additional $472 million devoted to wildfire relief related to the blazes in Southern California and to prepare for Hurricane Irma. Irma was upgraded to a Category 5 storm and is headed toward Puerto Rico. It may also sweep up toward Florida and Georgia. The combined $1.013 billion in the Disaster Relief Fund is unlikely to be enough for the extreme challenges created by Harvey and the other disasters.

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott (R) has warned that the bill for cleaning up and repairing storm damage from Harvey alone could cost as much as $180 billion.

The House is planning on taking up an initial disaster relief bill of $7.85 billion, $7.4 billion of which would go toward FEMA's disaster fund.

Another article on this site says that the winds at 180 mph are the highest ever in this hemisphere.

Hope the NWS doesn't run out of names as it did a few years ago.
They had to start the second round of the alphabet with the Greek letter-names.

Of course, the human toll and toll on all life are more important than the names given.

this isn't some game of 3D chess that ryan et al. are playing. They just want to defund and permanently cripple the Federal Government.

go ahead and destroy the Federal Government. Then try to find someone to clean up the disaster messes--caused by global warming resulting from your sale of fossil fuels--so that your businesses can continue. Oops, no one? Private businesses can't exactly do the job?

Oops, there is the flaw in their master plan--it's positively Shakespearean--they help create the disasters, but destroy the entity that can respond.

was to "Pray-Away" Irma.
No more funding from FEMA and Irma is not Cat5, so everyone on the east coast must not have prayed loud enough and long enough.
Better make it "Prayer Month" as September is the most active hurricane month and 2 are lined up.
