Commissioner: Officer who shot man in the back will be fired

Source: Associated Press

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Philadelphia's police commissioner says a white officer who fatally shot a black man in the back during a traffic stop will be fired.

Commissioner Richard Ross said Thursday that Officer Ryan Pownall has been suspended and will lose his job next month.

Ross says the 12-year police veteran used "poor judgment" when he fired on David Jones on June 8.

Surveillance video shows Jones running away as he's shot. He was stopped for riding a dirt bike on city streets and police say he reached for a weapon.

Now the next step is to charge him with the highest charge the evidence points to, prosecute him to the fullest extent of the law, and imprison him.
Don't treat it like he called in sick too many times. Treat it like it is, that he committed a crime and a man is dead as a result.

Works every time. Gosh, how many (other) criminals have gotten off on that defense? Must be a lot.

I was really drunk and had poor judgment. My bad. Can I go now?"

That wouldn't fly with the police. Why are the cops able to get away with crimes using that defense?

He shot a guy in the back! He "reached for a weapon"? As he was running away? And now they will just fire him? No criminal charges?
