Trump to visit Puerto Rico to see Irma damage

President Trump will visit Puerto Rico later this month to view the recovery efforts from Hurricane Irma's landfall this week.

Puerto Rico Gov. Ricardo Rossello tweeted Thursday that he had received confirmation from the White House that Trump will make his first official visit to the island.

"Just got confirmation that @realDonaldTrump will be visiting #PuertoRico to see firsthand effects of #Irma & the relief efforts," Rossello tweeted, adding the hashtag "#Grateful."

White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders previously said that Trump would visit Florida today, but declined to say where specifically the president would be going.

Apparently Puerto Rico erects statues of American presidents who visit. I seriously think that's why he's going.
