Donald Trump Jr. Gives Up Secret Service Protection, Seeking Privacy

Source: The New York Times

Donald Trump Jr., the president’s eldest son, has elected to forgo protection by the Secret Service, according to a senior administration official.

The agency ceased protecting Mr. Trump, who lives in New York City and is an executive at the Trump Organization, last week. Mr. Trump, an avid camper and hunter, is said to be seeking more privacy than he can expect with a contingent of agents accompanying him everywhere.

It was not immediately clear whether the decision applied to his family; he and his wife, Vanessa, have five children. Mr. Trump could not be reached, and the White House did not return a message seeking comment.

But giving up protection of even the younger Mr. Trump alone will provide relief for the Secret Service, which has had its work force and resources strained by the size and lifestyle of the Trump family.

The OP wasn't sure of the accuracy. And how far extended is "extended family??" I don't think anyone else's has ever extended so far.

I mean obviously the children who are young enough to be living with their parents in the White House, should get the SS protection. The Obama girls, Chelsea Clinton, the Bush girls all got it. But when George H.W. Bush was POTUS, he didn't have protection for his grown children. Dubya, Jeb and 3 other Bush "kids" were all adults and on their own. Same with Reagan's adult children. There was no around the clock protection for them.

Is this something the American taxpayers are expected to cover now? Were we even asked?

Just sayin'

18 U.S. Code § 3056 - Powers, authorities, and duties of United States Secret Service. Both Clinton and Bush requested and received protection of their adult children AFTER they had left office.

I asked if it was wise to not pay the SS expences (for the required rent on his golf carts, etc. at his private clubs and all of the other outrages expences that add up) since so many people hate him and he REALLY needs protection unless he has a death wish. Other DUers responded and said that 45 pays extra for his own SS so he doesn't need the taxpayers SS. That may be the reason they discontinued it.

*SS stands for Secret Service and not Nazis...with 45 you never know.
