Schumer points to Kansas to criticize Trumps tax plan

In a warning shot to Republicans crafting landmark tax legislation, Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer said on Sunday that Kansas’s experiment with tax cuts foreshadows what can happen if the GOP relies on “fake numbers” to support their effort.

Speaking on CBS’s "Face the Nation," Schumer rebutted assertions by the Trump administration that the president’s tax plan is not designed to cut taxes for rich Americans.

“It's completely focused on the wealthy and the powerful. Not on the middle class,” Schumer said.

He also attacked the Republicans’ assertion that the tax plan won’t add to the deficit. Kansas’s 2012 tax cuts led to a budget deficit that forced the state to cut funding for schools and infrastructure, Schumer said. Facing a major budget deficit, Kansas lawmakers in June approved legislation that rolled back many of Gov. Sam Brownback’s tax cuts.

Their long term goal is to "shrink government to a size that can be drowned in a bathtub" and this means dismantling FDR's New Deal and LBJ's Great Society.

The Rethugs realize they can't eliminate popular programs like Social Security and Medicare by direct legislative assault, so they have to convince the public they are unaffordable and hard choices must be made.

And that requires Huge. Budget. Deficits.

It's a mistake to assume the Rethugs are too stupid to understand the effects of their own policies. It makes more sense when you consider that the effects are exactly what they intended.

That is a bit outrageous. Small wonder that it becomes an excuse for shorting the funding for SO much else that would be constructive right now. A bunch of Dems voted right along with him, too. Really irks me.

15. That's Makes No Sense. How is that relevant to Kansas and Brownback's Tax Cut Experiment?

That is totally confusing to try to discuss the specifics a military budget vote in connection with Kansas, Brownback and how tax cuts are not a cure all. Plus, you do know that Kansas, as a state, does not have military expenditures, which I am sure someone would bring up if they tried to tie the two together as you propose.

12-Step Playbook:

1. Get elected and in charge.
2. Cut budgets to bare bones level, citing need to lower taxes and reduce government involvement in people's lives.
3. Observe government departments failing due to budget cuts. Play lots of golf and spend time on Faux News bragging on your economic programs.
4. Blast government departments for failing in the media, and say that government doing anything is bad. Saturate news media with this mantra.
5. Privatize everything possible in government, starting with failing or stressed areas.
6. Drown as much of government as possible in bathtub.
7. See public enraged by lack of services, especially schools and roads.
8. Restore just enough government funding to quench public outrage.
9. Leave government job just before you're tarred and feathered, but first help elect another Republican.
10. Repeat Steps 1 through 9.
11. Take a cushy job with a large firm offering golden parachutes and/or become a right-wing media star.
12. Retire overseas or in a gated community with lots of security.

7. The military budget should be

a line item on the pay stubs of all American taxpayers. When the budget goes up or we get involved in a war, the payroll deduction should go up accordingly. We would very quickly become the most peaceful nation on earth.

10. Good point. Most Americans do 'the notice or care to notice

how "their hard earned income" is taxed and spent until it effects them personally. This applies to most issues...becoming I'll with no insurance, having someone close to them shot by a random killer with an easily bought gun, a loved one shipped off to war, finding out that a loved one is gay and is harassed/harmed due to it, a natural disaster effects your home or job, you get passed over for a promotion due to your gender, etc. Most Republicans are out to benefit themselves and everyone else can stop whining. Then when they are effected they change their tune damn fast. They are self serving hypocrites.
