Marilyn Manson crushed by stage scenery in New York

Source: BBC

Rock star Marilyn Manson was injured during a concert in New York when a large piece of stage scenery fell on him on stage. The prop - apparently two large guns held together with metal scaffolding - fell as he was performing at the Hammerstein Ballroom on Saturday.

An eyewitness told the BBC that the singer lay on stage for up to 15 minutes covered by a sheet before he was carried out on a stretcher and taken to hospital. His condition is not currently known.

Eyewitness Anthony Biscardi told the BBC that fans at the concert "instantly freaked out".
"He was performing the song Sweet Dreams. Towards the middle of the song it seemed as though he tried climbing onto a prop. "The first touch of weight on those poles and it came crashing down onto him."

In videos of the incident posted online, stage crew and band members can be seen lifting the prop off the singer but he does not get back up. "He was pretty limp, almost as though he was unconscious," Mr Biscardi said.

I'm not a fan of his music, but he was one of the few people who made some sensible comments about Columbine.

I do arena stage rigging and this is one of those things we're supposed to not let happen.

none the worse for wear?

Too soon?

"On Saturday night, the legendary performer suffered an injury on stage towards the end of his set at NYC's Hammerstein Ballroom causing him to cut the show short. He was treated for the injury at a local hospital and will be recuperating at home in Los Angeles."

Unless you need to get someone out of immediate danger, don't move them. Stabilize them and wait for TRAINED medical personnel.

If there is a neck injury, that could end up badly for the victim.

But that thing did not seem heavy enough to do too much damage. I have had falls much worse than this, and even onstage, at a rock show. Like I said, hope he's okay.

There was nothing anchoring the truss to the floor that would support climbing it. And those suckers aren't light. Some sandbags would be adequate for just scenery but not for use as a climbing structure

There are specific OSHA rules governing this type of thing. I hope there is an investigation and fines.

Manson can be a pretty creepy guy - even when not in character. But he's pretty intelligent and has had things to say that I generally agree with. He comes across as a sort of laissez-faire progressive.

I like his music, he hits hard on current affairs. IMO humanities music is our history.
