Singer Rosanne Cash urges country musicians to stand up to the NRA

Source: The Hill

Singer Rosanne Cash penned a Tuesday op-ed calling on other country music stars to stand up for stricter gun control laws after the Las Vegas shooting that left at least 59 dead and more than 520 injured at a country music festival.

Cash accused the National Rifle Association (NRA) of attempting to attach itself to country music artists and their fan base as a "wholesome public relations veneer masks something deeply sinister and profoundly destructive."

"There is no other way to say this: The NRA funds domestic terrorism," she wrote in The New York Times.
"A shadow government exists in the world of gun sales, and the people who write gun regulations are the very people who profit from gun sales. The NRA would like to keep it that way."

The singer called on other music artists to end their silence, even if it means they will be "bullied for speaking out."

by mouth breathing trolls but I'm grateful for her bravery. If she and enough other like minded musicians speak out it is possible the tide could turn.

She's always been outspoken about her political beliefs. She is quite talented and, also like her father, gives no fucks about what people think about her. There are a great many country music fans (myself included) who embrace that. She has a huge following and always will.

I always find it ironic how often the RW knuckle draggers will wear "Cash" t-shirts and swear up and down that he was one of them when he wasn't.

He had that picture of Johnny Cash flipping the bird on his bulletin board, along with a Rush Limbaugh calendar. This guy never missed a day of listening to Rush.

I asked him if he was a Cash fan, and he said yes, absolutely. I then asked him what he thought of the lyrics to The Man In Black. He didn't know what I was talking about.

I’m sure she’s not the only country artist to speak out against the NRA.
For big acts Tim McGraw, Faith Hill, and Shania Twain are proud liberals. I’m sure this carnage and the NRA sicken them. There are other liberal C&W acts as well. If they stand up, one can only hope.

And Steve Earle and Lucinda Williams were both Bernie supporters. No doubt in my mind they’re staunch NRA opponents.

Steve Earle’s song “The Devil’s Right Hand” is the best anti handgun song ever written, bar none.

My new response. Hope there's a twitter #MeltThemDown.
I'd say the vast majority here in TN could not justify the reasons they need to carry if they lived in Great Britain.
