Police say Las Vegas gunman planned extensively, used cameras to monitor police

Source: Washington Post

LAS VEGAS — Authorities in Las Vegas said Tuesday that the gunman who killed least 59 people at a country music festival “extensively” planned the massacre, placing cameras in his room and the nearby hallway so he could see when police officers were closing in.

“It was pre-planned, extensively, and I’m pretty sure that he evaluated everything that he did in his actions, which is troublesome,” Joseph Lombardo, the sheriff of the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, said at a briefing Tuesday afternoon.

Lombardo said one of the cameras was hidden in a food service cart in the hallway outside the suite. Law enforcement officials said the purpose of that camera was apparently to give the gunman a video feed that would warn him when police were closing in.

Lombardo also said the department has opened an investigation into the unauthorized release of images that show the crime scene, including the bullet-riddled door to the suite used by the gunman, Stephen Paddock. Police said Paddock fired at hotel security before taking his own life.

If we can do it to the foreigners, why can't we do it to the whack jobs here?

It's really to make our girl gets home safely. My wife has it in her phone and you can set it up any number of ways. She has it set for a time frame so the cat doesn't keep setting it off all day.

This guy. Geesh.

From what I've read I'm guessing this guy wanted to show how smart he was and do what no one had done before. Second most likely is that he's kept the same issues his father had suppressed all these years. Other than that a medical issue he either didn't know about (like a tumor) or he suddenly found out about - given the time he put into planning this that unlikely - I think consensus will be one of the first two.

for me. This guy wasn't some loser, he was successful. Unless he stole his wealth, he did it all on his own, given the Dad. Plus, frankly, you don't have to be all that smart to mow down a bunch of people. As has been amply demonstrated over the past decade. This is usually a young, un or under employed man's game.

4. When he says the release of the photos was "unauthorized"

does he mean it really WAS unauthorized (in which case he should already know who's supposed to be responsible), or that it was supposed to APPEAR to be unauthorized (they WANTED it to look as though they had been leaked, and therefore they'll never find out who was responsible), or that HE has no idea of who WAS authorized (which is why he has to "investigate" )?

Don't they know they have an established procedure for processing evidence? This is just like when Chris Brown beat up Rihanna, and pics of her battered face that should have been in an evidence lockup ended up online -- which I'm sure helped Brown end up with probation in his plea deal.

He was a Good, Responsible Gun Owner.

So he had a lot of guns. That was his absolute right as an American citizen.

Thanks NRA and ALL it's members.

The only reason some one would own an automatic weapon is the ideation of killing. Anybody who wants one has proven they are sick. Even hunters would do fine with single shot guns. The only reason bolt action repeaters are popular is because the military had them .

it's better if they use their fists or a baseball bat or something less efficient at murder

We can't have people seeing reality, now can we. Someone might see his bloody face with a bullet hole through his skull, and become offended.

I'M FUCKING OFFENDED THAT 59 PEOPLE ARE DEAD, & ANOTHER 500+ INJURED.

who needs that many damn guns. ENUF. Time for common sense guns laws. Let me me it clear, not talking about taking away anyone's 2nd Amendment right to "arm" themselves, but one gun is enough and absolutely no semiautomatic or automatic weapons should be allowed except for the military and law enforcement

I've read some posters saying maybe he had a bad day at the tables and decided to start shooting. BS. This guy was calculating and knew exactly what he was doing.

A LOT of pre-thought went into this. My first A-HA moment was looking at the room, the vantage point. I don't know a lot about getting a room at a swanky hotel, but how far in advance would you have to book a room, request a specific side/level of the hotel, during the time a huge street concert was scheduled? I have booked ahead for smaller events, and sometimes just getting ANY room requires 3-4 months in advance. I know he was a "high roller", and it's possible the room was a "comp" but the timing just seemed a little odd to me, him getting a room on THAT particular side of the hotel.
