Top Republican predicts Christmas Eve vote on tax revamp

Source: The Hill

A top House Republican on Wednesday predicted Congress would vote to pass a tax bill on December 24th, saying the effort to overhaul the tax code would go down to the wire.

Rep. Patrick McHenry (R-N.C.), the House GOP chief deputy whip, said he expected both the House and Senate to finish work on a tax revamp bill on Christmas Eve.

GOP lawmakers and administration officials have pledged to enact a bill to cut individual and business tax rates, broaden the tax base and make the tax code simpler by the end of 2017.
Republicans are eager to make the most sweeping changes to the tax code since 1986, and are desperate to prove their ability to pass major legislation with unified control of the government.

McHenry pressed the need for tax reform at an event organized by Financial Services Roundtable, a leading lobbying group for the financial services industry. The deputy whip asked the audience of Washington policy leaders and lobbyists to judge the Republican tax package by its total effect, not whether includes a certain deduction or rider.

And so the "guy" standing behind him is the rep from Oregon, that's wants to take Medicare from seniors and pay for CHIP programs, and then this doofus from NC says this:

“Don’t let individual provisions drive your activism,” McHenry said, calling a tax cuts “a powerful element” that could boost economic growth.

I have seen since 1984, that my deductions have been taken away, while banks and corporations can keep there deductions by supposedly creating jobs, BS

Take for instance the interest rate on credit cards, that use to be a deduction, a middle class item, car loan interests use to be a deduction, a middle class item, now they want to take more deductions away while you have fucking corporations not paying one dime in the tax rate, someone has to make up the difference to keep the military and other programs going, and it is "always" the so called "middle class and the poor, there are "more" of us than them, think about it, take deductions away from the masses to pay for the 1% or the fucking 10% that own more wealth than entire country of middle class and poor., look no further than the Walton's .

MSNBC contributor Anand Giridharadas appeared on the Morning Joe and pointed out the reality about the current crop of Right Wing Republican Conservatives that have hijacked our government.

Once we understand what these Right Wing Conservative Republicans mean about "small government," it is clear how we must counteract their hypocrisy. The Morning Joe panel was discussing HHS Secretary Tom Price racking up hundreds of thousands of dollars on chartered jet travel throughout the country instead of using commercial airlines or ground transportation.

"It's telling too that no one seemed to view this as a problem until it became public over the last couple of days because you have repeated trips taken over and over again at taxpayer expense where it wasn't frankly required," said Morning Joe's Willie Geist. "There's not an instinct to say wait a minute this is wrong."

"Leaders set a tone," said Anand Giridharadas. "We all know Donald Trump lived until recently in a house with a stuffed lion and gilded every inch. So they live in a world in which people live in gold and don't see the realities which other people live. The amazing thing to build on your point about the jets, there's an unseemly quality to them being in jets. But that's actually not the real issue. The real issue is these people don't believe in the use of government to help people with cancer. They don't believe in the use of government to help people from going into bankruptcy because their kid got a relatively minor illness. But they do believe in the supreme power is a necessity of the United States government flying them places for thousands of dollars, tens of thousands of dollars that you can get, you know, for a hundred bucks on Expedia. So our government has been hijacked by people who don't believe in the use of government except for themselves."

is coming from my/ your / everyone's tax bill at the end of the year, they are not paying for trip me and you and everyone else is paying for a basically a free ride.

Medicare right now is a deduction for seniors, some seniors live off that deduction for the following year, that is a fact.

And these assholes want to have things given to them for free .............I mean really, I am not a serf and neither are my kids or parents, wife and her family, you and others, we are not serf's

And it's bad enough that they are still haggling over reinstating the lapsed CHIP funding. I think they are off this week (Columbus Day week holiday... ) and they will probably be off both Veteran's Day (week) and naturally Thanksgiving (week). That leaves them 2 weeks in December before Christmas/New Year's (weeks).

The current CR ends December 8th.

Seems they preferred to spend all their time trying to repeal Obamacare (with multiple iterations of several idiotic bills).

He's always been such a smug, pompous little shit. One thing - when the GOP gerrymandered the districts in NC, they cut the blue city of Asheville out of its former district and put it in McHenry's. His district actually became a bit more blue. If the stars aligned correctly, he could be beaten. May it happen soon!
