The Iranian foreign minister who helped craft the Iran nuclear deal said Sunday that pulling out of it would undermine Americas credibility in future negotiations.
Nobody else will trust any U.S. administration to engage in any long-term negotiation because the length of any commitment, the duration of any commitment, from now on with any U.S. administration would be the reminder of the term of that president," Iranian Foreign Minister Javad Zarif said on CBSs "Face the Nation."
On Friday, President Donald Trump announced he would decertify the 2015 agreement that put limitations on Irans nuclear program. Its now up to Congress whether to reimpose sanctions from before the deal. Other countries who are part of the deal have promised to keep supporting it.
Zarif said Iran is committed to not being the first party to withdraw from the deal, but would not commit to staying in if the U.S. pulls out but other countries stay it. He also said he got no heads-up from Secretary of State Rex Tillerson ahead of the administrations announcement.
