President Donald Trump believes a new poll showing that nearly half of Americans believe the news media is inventing stories about his administration is actually low-balling the issue.
On Wednesday night he tweeted, quoting a poll that Fox News reported on but was actually published by Politico and Morning Consult that found 46 percent of Americans think the media is inventing stories about Trump and his administration, Trump wrote. It is actually much worse than this! he said.

The Politico poll, published Wednesday, found that nearly 50 percent of Americans do, in fact, think that the media fabricates stories about Trump and his administration, while 37 percent dont. Republicans are more suspicious of the media than any other group, with 76 percent saying they believe in fake news. The groups distrust of the news is not particularly surprising as the partys leader, Trump, spends so much time criticizing the media.
Only one in five Democrats have bought into Trumps media outrage, but 44 percent of independents think the media is making up stories.

(6,376 posts)They dont pay attention to CNN, CBS, MSNBC, etc. So even if they did call him out, they would never hear it.

(7,768 posts)Like Joe Scarborough said, "He gets his daily Presidential Briefings from Fox and Friends!"
That's scary as hell and it's true.
I DO believe it's all going to come out, but HURRY Bob Mueller!

(4,371 posts)sure its core supporters are kept informed
of the facts...in case, you know, if any
doubt is creeping in. That way all the
things the gop doesn't believe can be
blamed on the liberal press.

(629 posts)This is not a poll about republicans nor those who identify with the right. This is all people and if that is not enough to really rattle someone's cage they better think about getting a new rattle. I have thought that with everything that has been reported certainly people would begin to change their mind about the next elections but reading this I am not confident at all. Reading on this forum there are some left wing reactions I filter out but overall the reporting is truthful. I have no problems with the truth whatever it is but when people start believing they are being lied to by the people who are supposed to inform them then that is a huge problem and it does not bode well for the elections next year.
Well, that's my opinion. I could be wrong.

(5,995 posts)The real issue is which ones are doing it and how to combat it.
There is a court ruling from Fla that even though Fox News clearly & intentionally broadcast false information, they had no obligation to correct or stop doing it.

(3,665 posts)When was the last time, in a couple of decades, have you heard a Con say anything about the media without labeling it "liberal"? They've been working on this for a long time. 45 is just the culmination of their efforts to discredit real news.

(14,169 posts)that they are "inventing stories about Trump and his administration"?.
I could see that many on the right and the left having an issue with reporting in general, both for different reasons. It has become clear in the past where their loyalties lie. In the past, their stumbling over each other to see who could have the most pumped up graphics, and pro-war messaging just before and during the Iraq invasion, and their refusal to cover the other side. Then their refusal to properly investigate health care issues and how other countries do it etc... during the first health care debates when Obama was elected. Michael Moore's Sicko was the only thing that was close, but that was not the MSM.
Probably a lot of other instances, for the left to not trust the MSM news.
But if this poll was specific about Trump, then yikes! So 20% of Democrats also think the MSM is making up fake stories about Donald? WTF?
As far as I can see, the MSM is only repeating Trumps tweets, and reporting on his behaviour and his executive orders, and discussing the ramifications. How is that "inventing" anything?

(2,439 posts)"fabricating stories about trump" doesn't elude they are positive or negative stories...
I could see this as representative if they aren't calling out specific news outlets, lumping them altogether.
