Kirkuk province: Iraqi and Kurdish forces in fierce fight

There have been fierce clashes between Kurdish and Iraqi troops north of Kirkuk city, days after the Iraqi army took control of disputed areas.

A BBC correspondent at the scene said there had been rocket, artillery and machine-gun fire in Alton Kupri.

The district is the last area in Kirkuk province still held by Kurdish Peshmerga fighters.

Iraqi forces have this week taken over swathes of territory which had been held by the Kurds since 2014.

... provided the current Iraqi army the real juice for getting ISIS chased out of Mosul and just about every place else in northern Iraq. And now the genocide begins. I am just shaking my head here. Give Peace A Chance® ~ John and Yoko

Now the Iraqis are fighting against the very people who are largely responsible for the Iraqi success on the ground. With US support, of course, but most of the initial ground success came from the Kurds
